Hi all,

I am very new to this group and posting to groups in general. I don't
know if you have already spoken about favourite events or people from
all/any of REF books. I would be interested in reading other peoples
points of view, or even if Ray has a favourite person?

IF YOU HAVEN'T READ KING OF FOXES LOOK AWAY NOW

Event

Mine has got to be when Tal gets part of his right arm chopped off.

Why?

Because I never expected that to happen and I was shocked! As I read
the words I thought something MUST happen to stop this from taking
place..... but nothing did and it got chopped off! It's great when
you don't see something coming in a book.

Vix.

I agree totally with you. I couldn't believe that no one came in the
nick of time to save Tal and that arm, never thinking back to one of
the previous stories that had a similar event as in flesh being
regenerated. ( I think ) At least my memory tells me that in another
book that had happened, I can't remember. I've read too many fantasy
and science fiction books over the years that I may be mistaken.

I would find it hard to choose between two.

1. Jimmy The Hand - I love the way his impudance and roguish exuberance was
harnessed into brilliance wihtout being diluted.

2. Pug/Milamber - I really like the duality of personalities which was
presented while keeping them as aspects of the one common person, and the
way that duality evolved and integrated into still a third personality
expression.

Both are multivolume progressions, which are much harder to maintain and
keep consistant than character development within a single novel.

Favorite moments/events: It would have to be the defence of the citadel in
Darkness at Sethanon, in which we saw two strong characters forced to
discover the elements in themselves that they perceived in each other and
find common ground. I speak, of course, or du Bas-Tyra and Arutha. Starting
diametrically opposed, both in personality and in reader perceptions, they
ended as closer characters in many ways than any of the three ConDoin
brothers - four, if you count Pug.

SPOILER

That happened with Tal close at the end of the book. Nakor (i think)
regenerated his arm. So the whole event was not that definitive. A shame
actually, i would have liked to see Talon with one arm the rest of his live.

My favourite event must have been the scene where Mara of the Acoma took on
the Magicians of kelewan at the end of book 3. it took place in the palace
of the emperor.
My favourite person is Lujan. From the house of Acoma.

Yes, Nakor brought Tal to another magician if memory serves. I was
thinking that a similar thing happened in another book that Mr. Feist
had written. It must have been another author all together, maybe
Dave Duncan.

My favorite moment is in the Riftwar Saga when Milamber is sitting in
the Coliseum and has had ENOUGH of the mistreatment of his fellow
Midkemians and freaks out, calling down the elements and destroying the
Coliseum. I remember going back and re-reading the part over, and over
several times and it just gave me chills.

Yes, That moment was awesome and was very deserving of being relived as seen
through Mara's eyes in the Empire books.

My favourite character would have to be Nakor. I met REF at a book signing
in Auckland when "Rage.." came out and asked him then where the ideas for
Nakor came from and (correct if I'm wrong Ray) REF replied that he didn't
really know but he was the most fun character to write for because you
didn't really know what he'd do next.

Favourite scene of nakors would probably be when he shows Nicky how to fix
his club foot by releasing all of his guilt. A very short scene, but one
that had such vivid implications that if we could just let go of what we
felt guilty about, we could overcome any perceived flaws.

Pretty much. Jimmy and Nakor are two guys who just showed up one day
and wouldn't leave for a while.

It's what I can the subconscious taking control for a while.

It's fear, really, not so much as guilt I was writing about. Had a
youngster in Birmingham, England who had been terribly injured in a car
accident and confined to a wheel chair for the rest of his life tell me
that scene helped him confront his own fear of overcoming his new
situation and rage at losing his ability to walk and thanked me for
writing it.

It's moments like those that make it special for a writer.

Best, R.E.F.

I always post schedules when touring. At this time, there are no plans
for a tour until 2007, when Wrath of a Mad God (Darkwar III) is
published.

Flight comes out on Monday in the UK, November in some of the export
markets, and April in the US.

/sigh... Another book I have to import rather than wait for. Thank
goodness for Amazon.uk My bookshelf is getting full of UK editions for
some of my favorite authors. I'm starting to spell armor 'armour' and all
sorts of other interesting little quibbles. "tis worth it though. Thanks

Sigh, I live in San Diego, I work just down the hill from where you live
(that is if you still live in Rancho Santa Fe) and I have to order your
books from the U.K. because I can't wait the six months it takes to be
released here. I'm just a few miles from the author, but the book is a
few thousand miles from me.

Smile Life can be so cruel sometimes.
