Post subject: File Copy ?
Archived from groups: rec>collecting>books (more info?)

I have a book called The Victorian Mountaineers by Ronald Clark. The book
has no title page, and is stamped File Copy on the first 2 pages. No pages
have been removed. There seems to be an extra page of photographs before the
contents page. Would anybody know what a File Copy is ?
Best regards
Diane

I have a copy of a "file copy" Hardy Boys book (The Tower Treasure).
It was kept by the publisher (Grosset & Dunlap) as an example of a
particular print run and had information regarding the printer and binder
contained on a "File Copy" bookplate in the front of the book.
I would imagine your copy served much the same purpose.

I have file copies from publishers, agents and even movie studios. Uncommon,
but generally not a premium value (it's easy to buy your own "File Copy"
stamp or plates.)
