I was taking online quiz about IWTV. Can you believe there were four fires in
that book? I forgot about one, and thought there were four. That's a lot of
fire, huh? hehe Just wondering if anyone else forgot like I did.

Julie,
I thought about that too. For beings that can do up like dried leaves,
and are expressly told to stay away from fire you wouldn't think they
would play with it so often, hee hee.

I so agree,. but who's they? I don't think it was Louis who set the doll shop
on fire, but he did start three of the four fires. Louis is a little fire bug.
hehe

That's so true. I was talking about IWTV, but all the vamps are little fire
bugs. hehe I have not yet read MTD. I wonder what Louis did to make Lestat
burn down his home. Hmmm.. Knowing Lestat, probably not much. LOL I Think
they'd be a nice pairing, but they're just too different. *Sigh* lol

MAJOR SPOILERS DOWN BELOW!!!

Okay, but first I have to tell you that I screwed up, the shack
burning didn't take place in Memnoch, it took place in Tale of the
Body Thief. I don't know why I was thinking it was Memnoch and I'm
surprised nobody corrected me.
Anywho, the premise of TOTBF, if you haven't read it, is that Lestat
switches bodies with a guy named Raglan James (The Body Thief), who
used to be a member of the Talamasca before they booted him out. He
has already switched bodies with a guy who is now dead and killed his
old body.
Anyway, the Body Thief offers to switch bodies with Lestat, allowing
Lestat to be human for a period of time. I think it is three days, but
things go very wrong and Lestat realizes that the BF has no intention
of returning his body to him. Lestat even agrees to the $20 million
that the BF is also asking for believing that the sum money will
ensure that the BF will return. In the end the BF is more interested
in being powerful in an immortal body than the $20 million.
Lestat gets back down to New Orleans and asks/demands that Louis make
him a vampire so he would have more power to get his body back. He
tries to entice him by telling Louis that Louis would now be His maker
and that Louis would be the more powerful of the two. Louis, being
Louis, absolutely refuses to do this telling Lestat that he now has a
chance to redeem himself and that he should go with the nun he met in
Georgetown, VA (longer story there) and help her save lives when she
returns to South America. This also comes after Louis nearly kills
Lestat because he doesn't recognize him in the human body. So, after
Louis walks out on Lestat, Lestat burns it down out of anger (Lestat
being Lestat), but makes sure to remove all the value paintings and
whatnot that Louis has stashed there over the years. Marius also shows
himself to Lestat and kind of just shakes his head at what Lestat has
done, but also doesn't offer any assistance. So at the end of the
story Lestat is a little pissed at both Louis and Marius, but of
course, he forgives them. He tells himself that they "really knew"
that he would win in the end so he didn't need their help.
TOTBF is probably my favorite book after TVL, I think because it is a
story that takes places, totally, in the modern era and it shows
Lestat in a vulnerable position that he still comes out on top of in
the end and is a story in which Lestat redefines himself.
Some people think it was a bit whiny because, as it turns out, Lestat
hates being mortal and does do quite a bit of bitching throughout the
book. This is the major lesson he learns from his experience. He
willingly chooses to go back to being a vampire because he really
likes being a vampire. Whereas before he could tell himself that he
was forced into vampirism, this time he can't, he had a choice. So his
illusions about finding redemption, trying to do good by showing the
world evil, and his desire for a mortal existance have all been
shattered.
If you haven't read it yet, you should. If you have...well, then this
was a great trip down storybook lane, hee hee.
Take care,
Ashe

Thank you for telling me. Now, I know. I still think LnL should get together. I
know, it would never work but I can still like it. hehe I so get what you said,
but why did Anne write MTD? Hmmm? Seems everything is kind of finished here.
Then again, I don't know everything.

Julie,
I heard that Memnoch the Drivel wasn't originally supposed to be a
Vampire Chronicle, that it was supposed to be a stand-alone novel with
a new character. This certainly does hold water as Lestat is almost
unrecognizable in this story. This Lestat doesn't "feel" like the
Lestat we all know. Throughout the whole book he's whiny, afraid,
timid, and overwhelmed. So much for the vampire who said he'd go to
hell just to laugh in Satan's face...or something like that.
You almost get the impression that, at the last minute, she decided
that she would make Lestat the main character and did a search and
replace.
What's worse, this book is a rip-off of Goethe's Faust, in which the
main character, Dr. Faust, makes a deal with the devil and sees heaven
and hell. If you interested in the subject matter read the original
work, not the rip-off.
Take care,

Yeah, I agree. That character sounds more like Louis. Yet, it not to a Tee.
*Knows all the Louis Lovers will hate me*

From what you say, because I haven't read it myself, I agree. I think she
replaced the character with Lestat because she knew it would sell. Which if
that is true, is horrible.

Hmmm... I never heard of that book. When was it published? So, you don't think
I said should read MTD at all? My thing of it, though would he want to go
there? He's never to going to die. Also, you'd think, once again, that would be
an ending point. That the chronicles would end there.
