All,
I've done a bit of research on this question (both in google groups as
well as elsewhere), so if it's in the FAQ and/or has been posted
before, my bad, and please point me to the relevant place. thx.
so, here goes: I finished Flag in Exile a few days ago, and then came
across the afterword (or was it Author's note? haven't got the book
here) about terror and an incident that must have happened between
1994 (October, IIRC) and 1995, when the book was published. Again,
quoting from memory, he writes ".. an American citizen ..." in
referring to said incident.
Can someone enlighten me as to which incident Mr. Weber is talking
about?
thx very much

I remember the name and the incident (roughly - not being American,
these things don't stand out that high in my memory . I couldn't
put a date to the incident, and my research somehow missed the
connection too.
thx all

Does the name 'Timothy McVeigh' have any meaning for you? He and his bestest
bud, Terry Nicholls, pulled off the 2nd worst terrorist attack in the history
of the United States... The two noxious scumbags deliberately targeted a
building containing a day care center and murdered large numbers of children
with malice aforethought. How soon they forget.

Don't feel too bad, I remember the incident and where I was, but really
can't put a date to it and I am an American.

Quoted from "Flag in Exile"
". I did not expect that between the time I wrote this novel and the
time it was published a United States citizen in Oklahoma City would
demonstrate an even worse contempt for human life and the fundamental
values of his own society or prove capable of an act even more
despicable than my fictional villains."
This refers to:(Wikipedia article)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oklahoma_City_bombing
The Oklahoma City bombing was a domestic terrorist attack on April 19,
1995 aimed at the U.S. government in which the Alfred P. Murrah
Federal Building, an office complex in downtown Oklahoma City,
Oklahoma, was bombed. The attack claimed 168 lives and left over 800
people injured. Until the September 11, 2001 attacks, it was the
deadliest act of terrorism on U.S. soil.

Within days after the bombing, Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols were
both arrested for their roles in the bombing.

Agreed--I wasn't placing it, either. I'm terrible at remembering when
something happened--whether it's news events or personal events. >> Stay informed about: Flag in Exile: Q on Author's note / afterword |

my copy of the book doesn't have "in Oklahoma City", it just says "and
the
time it was published a United States citizen would demonstrate..."
It was printed in Nov. 98 (third printing), in case someone cares ...

As it happens I posted on Baen's Bar Snerkers Only in January 2000 in a
discussion on post publication updates to OBS.
"Note that In a few years an addition to DW's afterword to FiE may be
needed to explain and date the (Oklahoma bombing) reference."
