Hi Ray

first of all I want to thank you for another great book, as always it was
quite a rush to read it.

I have one (at least currently) question and since it will be a major
spoiler here is the spoiler space:

It was mentioned that Pug recieves messages from a future version of
himself. I reread the coresponding part in Princes of the Blood and it WAS
mentioned there that Pug told James what to say if he had to speak on his
behalf. The exact words where a bit different but the basic idea was there.
Is it true that you have the whole story in your head? Do you exactly KNOW
what will happen in future books?

I remeber that Mike Stackpole mentioned that his characters tend to develop
differently then he thought while he is writing his books but that wouldn't
work the way Midkemia is written.

Regards

Stefan from Germany

The short answer is that Mike is correct; often a character will
present himself/herself at a time when you fully don't realize his/her
role/potential in the story to come.

I have big concept stuff down. I know how a book will end. I
understand most of the major components that tie together the story
arcs. After that, I make it up as I go.

Best, R.E.F.

The best analogy I have heard to describe the situation is White Water
Rafting. You know where you are starting from and where you'll end up, and
even most of the major bends in the river, but have no real idea of exactly
what twists and turns you'll encounter on the way.

On 02/11/05 at 16:46:01 Chris F. Willoughby somehow managed to type:

> Next spring. Sad

It's here in Oz. - if you'll buy hardbacks - I won't, they're far too
difficult to read in bed without damaging 'em...Smile

Besides my reading to-do list is big - four humungeously HUGE volumes
from Peter F hamilton, Ian Irvines mirror and well of echos series', at
least a dozen Robert Rankin and Terry Pratchett novels and I'm
_supposed_ to be writing a thesis.....
