Search by the Foundation, Part Two
Written: 1949
Published: 1950
18 300 words
Date: 378 F.E.
1
BEGINNING OF WAR
The war begins; Toran Darell has Semic build a mind-static device as a
protection against the Second Foundation; Darell and Pelleas Anthor
debate how best to fight the Second Foundation (3300)
2
WAR
The hopeless strategic situation of the Foundation versus Kalgan;
Stettin's confidence in victory despite Meirus' pessimism (1000)
3
GHOST OF A WORLD
Arcadia Darell on Trantor, now only an agricultural world; She
persuades Preem Palver to go on an agricultural mission to the
Foundation and to send her father an important but apparently
meaningless message (2200)
4
END OF WAR
Battle of Quoriston; Jole Turbor as war correspondant; Confidence of
the Foundation; Preem Palver captured by the Foundation Fleet; Victory
of the Foundation Fleet; Preem Palver on Terminus, where he delivers
Arcadia's puzzling message; Lord Stettin in despair at his defeat; Munn
returns to Terminus as his envoy (2900)
5
"I KNOW..."
Homir Munn as Mediator Extraordinary; His new-found self-confidence,
and knowledge concerning the Second Foundation: Dr Darell, Munn,
Turbor, Anthor and Semic meet again; Munn asserts the Second Foundation
doesn't exist; Munn proved to be controlled by the Second Foundation;
Anthor's theory that Kalgan is the Second Foundation; Darell reveals
his invention of a mind static device as a defense against the Second
Foundation; He announces he knows where the Second Foundation really is
(4200)
6
THE ANSWER THAT SATISFIED
Darell's theory that the Second Foundation is on Terminus itself; He
turns on the mind static device, Pelleas Anthor collapses and is proved
to be a Second Foundationer; Arcadea returns home and Dr Darell takes
her encephalogram to satisfy himself she has not been controlled, and
her theory is true that the Second Foundation is on Terminus (3100)
7
THE ANSWER THAT WAS TRUE
The First Speaker explains to a student how the Second Foundation has
convinced the Foundation that the Second Foundation has always been on
Terminus; Arcadia controlled since infancy; Fifty martyrs sacrificed to
convince the Foundation that the Second Foundation is on Terminus; The
Second Foundation revealed to be on Trantor (1700)
The novel drags its slow length to the interesting conclusion that
Trantor is _still_ the real seat of supreme power in the universe.
This is somewhat analogous to the role of the Papacy in perpetuating
the Roman bureaucracy and culture.
I hope this outline proves useful. Others are free to add to it as they
like and repost a fuller summary of this great novel. >> Stay informed about: Foundation Outline 11 (Last), Search by the Foundation, Pa.. |

Well, thanks very much for the interest, but I have no current plans to
do so. Personally I've always liked Currents of Space next to the
original Foundation Series - I copied out the French translation of
that novel when I was a boy, longhand. Unlike Asimov, my hand didn't
fall off, although it took me 3 months. Perhaps you would like to
tackle the later novels? >> Stay informed about: Foundation Outline 11 (Last), Search by the Foundation, Pa.. |
