I just found out that there is an audio adaptation of the Foundation
trilogy currently airing on BBC7. There are 8 episodes, and they can
be listened to from their website. I think a subscription to one of
real's services is necessary, though. Here is the website:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7/drama/7thdimension.shtml

BTW, I also recommend the Earthsearch series, althouth it is not
Asimov, it is a very novel and interesting series.

I downloaded those and put them on a CD a few months ago. I need some
time to listen to them again.

Still trying to find the Caves of Steel. Not have much luck Sad

Can you post the Foundation Trilogy? I would love to have that.

Thanks, Robert

BTW, all of these appear with some regularity in the MP3 newsgroups,
particularly alt.binaries.sounds.radio.bbc. Technically this is not
an MP3 group, but I think you will find it is the most commonly used
format there.

Anyone can listen live - no subscription needed. All you need is the
RealPlayer or the Windows Media player. I record "I'm Sorry, I'll Read That
Again" regularly on Fridays so I can listen to it later. As far as I know,
they only have archives of recent programs which, again, anyone can listen
to.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

How do you download them? I visited that site, clicked on the RealPlayer
link and was directed to the 'BBC Radio Player Radio on Demand' page. But it
seems that basically the only thing I can demand is something called 'The
Big Toe Radio Show' - at least I can't figure out how to find other
programmes. And that's only streaming audio anyway, not downloadable files.

I should have it in about an hour Smile

It was posted in one of these binaries groups June last year, don't
remember which one.

I have never posted to a binaries group before so I will need to
figure out the proper way to do it. There are 8 files all about 28m
each.

I can't tell from your headers what OS you're using (never heard of
Pronews).. In Linux I just whip up a script that uuencodes the files, adds
the appropriate headers and pipes them through inews. In Windows I used to
use a (free) programme called Autopost, written by Eucalypt Software (you
just point it to some files, tell it where you want them posted, and let it
do its stuff). If you've got a mac I can't help you, sorry.

Before posting though, I recommend you split the files up into smaller
pieces (around 500kB is good). In Linux/UNIX you can use split(1). In
Windows, MasterSplitter. Again, I don't know about macs.

HTH.

After a false start I have finally sussed out how this news program
works with binaries. I posted the first part yesterday. it is titled
"part 1 of Asimov's Foundation Trilogy"

I will start the upload of the other 7 parts today.

I see I forget to state where I am posting the files.

Hey Robert. I got part 1, but I think you are naming the files wrong because when I go to "combine and decode"
the order my Outlook Express wants to put them in is 1,10,101...120,2,20,21 etc.. While other people's files are in
the correct order. I think maybe the (2 of 8 - stereo) phrase might be screwing things up. I can do it if I manually put the files
in order, but that takes a long time. Do me a favor and try part 6 without so much stuff in the file names.

Stan
