This message is from Mark Owings; but has been typed by my wonderful
wife Julanne. There will be no Friday ghost story this week. I have
several ready, and got five more 10 days ago, but telling someone how
to locate them in my files, then figure out which ones are ready, which
have never been used, and which I am not sure if I want to use, is too
complicated to try!
This telling would be necessary, because I am in the hospital and have
been here since last Saturday. I cannot get to my computer.

Hello Julanne,

Sorry to hear that Mark is unwell, I'm sure we all hope he will make a
full recovery of his health as soon as possible. Please pass on best
wishes.

I've heard some lame excuses in my time (heard, or used?).

"Sorry sir, my P.E. shirt was eaten by an escalator"

"I can't come in to work because I'm feeling a bit urrrrr"

"Dear Mr Smith, Please excuse X from the cross-country run today
because he has a rash."

Look Owings, everyone knows that hospitals have internet facilities.
Don't try fobbing us off with that old chestnut. It's Friday and you
are required, under the terms of this newsgroup, to file a ghost story
in the time-honoured tradition.

However, your attendance record has been pretty reliable over the last
five years, so I suppose one lapse is just about tolerable.

But don't let it happen again.

I hope you're back on your feet soon, Mark.

Also, props to John for posting "The Blue Star".

Yes, some hospitals have internet facilities. But the one I was at did
not, otherwise I would not have had 1000 email messages to read through
and would not have had to postpone looking at abg-f until Thursday
night.

Tomorrow's srory I found particularly striking, on the other hand.

Hope you're back to full strength. Whenever I hear of anyone being ill,
I'm always reminded of the opening scene from Walter de la Mare's A
RECLUSE.
