Way back when, when the Fantastic Four and the X-men beat up Ahab The Worst
Villian Ever, they made sure to tell each other they were friends now. So why
not have Reed show up in Westchester? I want more well-written acknolegedment
that the X-Men live in the Marvel Universe.

Can't argue with this.
(except that jab at Ahab)

Because to do so would emphasise yet again the insanity of the MU population
hating mutants as a matter of course, but accepting that other heroes (on
little evidence) are "simply" metahumans and adulating them. Or why Scarlet
Witch, Justice and Firestar are acceptable in Avengers when they are mutants
too.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Friends of the X-Men |

True... but that's just a really good reason to drop the whole "hating mutants"
thing. Personally, I've been sick of it for 25 years.

Bigotry is too big a theme to ever just be dropped because it has been
used for 25 years.
Perhaps 25 years after it ceases to be a real world issue?<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Friends of the X-Men |

Show up and do what? Maybe if writers had a particular reason to make
characters meet one another, sure, but having them appear just to meet
some continuity need is pointless.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Friends of the X-Men |

Well, Wanda and Vision's house was burned down - despite them being
Avengers.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Friends of the X-Men |

Actually, it matches normal human insanity - the children of immigrants hating
the new immigrants, racists with black friends, etc.

To add to that, it's even more pronounced when celebrity is involved - how
many racists think Halle Berry's attractive? Or Beyonce? A considerable
amount, because they're celebrities, not n****rs.

Perhaps my opinion would be different if the "hating mutants" thing had ever
been handled well. It hasn't. It's much, much too pandemic to be believed.

I liked Morrison's turning that on it's head, about bloody time, and giving
us "Mutant chic" as a trend/fad/social movement.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Friends of the X-Men |

Even back in Trek days, Nichelle Nichols records that the only letter she
saw about the infamous" inter-racial kiss" was from a guy who said,
essentially "I believe in segregation of the races, but under the
circumstances and considering Uhura, I'd have done the same thing"<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Friends of the X-Men |

What besides the inconsistentcy of mutants being singled out from
other superhumans, which is mostly a byproduct of having a shared
universe of characters coexisting, would you change in order to have
it be handled well?<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Friends of the X-Men |

More stories showing the other side -- people that love them or are indifferent
to them.

Well, in all the Claremont years we did see that one pro-mutant rally.... in
X-Men 200.... in France... for almost two panels....<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Friends of the X-Men |
