Did you ever have one of those days when you wondered which minor deity
or demon you had offended, because they were obviously trying to punish
you for the slight? I'm having one of those days. Last night Pat
started having pain in her arms and was so miserable I took her back to
the emergency room again. They took her in immediately, which was no
surprise, really, since it was about 2 AM on a slow, rainy Monday
morning. Then they hooked her up to an EKG after taking down her
history and decided she had, at some point in the past, suffered a heart
attack, based on the readout from the EKG. They couldn't tell her when
it happened, it could have been as many as ten years ago, according to
the doctor, but the evidence of a prior cardiac episode was there, and
the fact that her arm hurt made them nervous. It made me nervous, too,
which was why I hauled her in there in the middle of the night. Women
do not exhibit the same symptoms of coronary distress as men do. There
is often no warning, or the warning is misinterpreted by the patient at
the time. Anyway, just to be on the safe side, they are keeping her for
observation and to run some more tests while they try to figure out what
is wrong with her arm, all of a sudden.

You would not be wrong in guessing that I am thoroughly disamused by
this turn of events. It is supposed to snow today, and I do not need to
be running around like a nutter, fighting bad weather and crazed traffic
to check up on Pat's condition. Calling the hospital is pointless,
because they do not tell you anything specific. Meanwhile, it is now
nearly 0630, and I am going to bed. You will all hear more about this
new mess when I know more details.

Oh, dear, this is a distressing turn of events. Sending major woodgies to
Pat to get well! and to Kathi for coping with all of this.

All too often. All too often.

In all seriousness, though, I wish Pat all the best healing thoughts
again. I guess I'll leave them out there to use as needed.
