Post subject: The GOod Doctor regarding Berlin and the Cold War?
Archived from groups: alt>books>isaac-asimov (more info?)

Periodically I get into discussions with folk
who claim that [name of President deleted]
was the Big Reason the West won the Cold War.

I've responded that, of course, it was a lot
more complicated than that (and made sure NOT
to laugh at them...) and added that a key
reason the eastern bloc collapsed was
that their people saw how much better off
teh Westerners were.

I'm pretty sure I recall the Good Doctor talking
about this economic disparity, pointing out
the streetlights in West Berlin cheerfully
glowing out to the Easterners.

Does this ring a bell with anyone? Thanks.
