Then what is the advertisement doing in alt.fan.phil-k-dick?

No idea! Presumably the writer was trying to say "If you like.... then
you'll love ..."

I'm not convinced myself!

But it's a real ad, not an illusory one...

I remember that PKD did a complaint when they translated his "Ubik"
into German. The translator messed up a key term, because he got the
German for:

"I am the brand name. When all things began, the brand name already
was. The brand name dwelt with God, and what God was, the brand
name was. The brand name, then, was with God at the beginning, and
through him all things came to be; no single thing was created
without him." - Philip K. Dick (text taken from Jeff Fisher's
<http://www.nettime.org/Lists-Archives/nettime-l-0010/msg00027.html>)

Sometimes, though, I think for the Net, with its almost infinite
emphasis on advertising, this is more or less true.

Don't be...

Mr Bushell is an British tabloid journalist and used to write for the
Murdoch press - I'd only recommend reading anything of his material if
you really, really, really hate literature or journalism and need
reinforcement for your prejudices.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I may be ignorant - but I'm not prejudiced. Just hadn't heard of him -
sorry!

No you don't have to be sorry. If anything, its a blessing; ignorance
is indeed *bliss*.

I suppose in a sense he's a sort of Rush Lumbaugh sort of character
but not nearly as intelligent...ahem.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

That's not all of the saying. The whole aying is: "IF ignorance is bliss,
'tis folly to be wise." (my emphasis)

I don't know. I think he's just smart enough to know which side his
bread's buttered and targets his drivel accordingly.
