A Great Act Of Faith: The Silver Chair Spoilers

In "The Silver Chair" is perhaps the greatest act of faith to occur in
the series.

Aslan assigns Jill the task of finding the lost Prince Rilian, and gives
her 4 signs to guild her. The 4th sign is that she would know Rilian by
this: He would be the first person she and Eustace meet who would ask
them to do something in Aslan's name.

Eustace and Jill eventually go down into an underground kingdom, where
they find an Emerald Queen, and a knight who goes crazy every night, and
has to be tied to a silver chair during his frenzy. Jill, Eustace, and
Puddleglum the Marshwiggle are left alone in a room with the knight tied
to the chair as he goes into his frenzy. During his frenzy, he charges
them to release him in the name of Aslan. The idea of freeing him makes
them very nervous, and they wonder if Aslan really meant them to free a
lunatic. However, they decide that they must follow the sign, so in a
great act of faith, they free the knight in Aslan's name, even though
they fear that the knight will kill them. The knight calms down and
explains that he is Prince Rilian, held captive by the Emerald Queen
under the enchantment of the Silver Chair. The enchantment worn off
every 24 hours, so Rilian was tied to the chair to recharge it.

IMO, the greatest act of faith in Narnia is in the Silver Chair, but it is
not the scene you described. Instead, for me, it is Puddleglum's
proclamation of faith in Aslan, even after acknowledging that there is no
Sun, no Overland, no Narnia and no Aslan...even so, he is going to spend his
life for Aslan anyway. Please read it again...it is one of the great
proclamations of faith in literature.
