Post subject: HELP! Anybody know what the books are?
Archived from groups: rec>arts>books>tolkien (more info?)

Rookie in the fantasy world.

I came across these 3 novels in another language, although all the
names, places sound English, and literature follows generally
agreed-upon nature of elves, demon, and magic.

I am wondering whether anybody ever read (familiar) original books in
English and could let me know the authors and book names.

If these is not the group, anyone knows where I can post? Here is
brief description:

1. Son of grocery store owner in tiny village, he (Enric?) was taken
by his drunken, vulgar magic teacher to a magic school in capital.
Enric, as magician-in-training, was then sent to a lab in forest with
3 kids (2 boys and a girl) to study magic from a crazy witch (Kris?),
who is sister of the king. During the dark days of harsh training,
Enric was sent to the underworld, where he encountered the (dying)
head demon, who forced Enric to serve him and thereafter moved into
Enric's soul.

After couple months, the 4 kids joined a journey to another kingdom
with their princess (niece of the witch). There were attempted
assassins on the way, though Enric successfully used some "forbidden
magic/curse" just learned to protect them all.

The princess later tricked Enric to dress up like a girl. It turned
out to be a stunt, and Enric was crazily courted by lots of people
(almost got "raped"). Enric later traveled across the kingdom with his
fellow girl apprentice. It's during this journey, both of them made
huge social changes to existing political infra-structure, using the
"holly water", creativity and good heart. Enric fought with another
"forbidden magic" by the end.

Enric later traveled to some other countries, accompanied by couple
young girls. He was caught on a sea journey by his wizard teacher, who
used him as some lab material...

The Enric character is weak in mind; although he is considered to be
one of the greatest magicians in the world (can do 3 "forbidden magic"
to kill thousands). He always had to disguise as a girl, yet later
trapped in the female identity...(continued);

2. The harbor young kid was used by a thief gang and trained as a
hit-man. He had to pretend to be heir of local nobleman, so he could
be the governor of county near sea. He luckily met his magic teacher,
and became an apprentice of magic.

Later the king sent some high-rank official to take over his position.
Of course, an implicit fight broke out and he won at last. He then
traveled to the capital with 2 young ladies to embark on new
adventure…(continued);

3. The boy grew up in orphanage. Now he is working in a circus as a
male hooker. He one day revisited his old orphanage where the story
began. There was an unsuccessful assassination to the king's top
lieutenant on the same day. The lieutenant was saved by a nobleman,
who died without an offspring.

The kingdom treasure tried to cash out on the king's appreciation to
the dead nobleman, and recruited the boy to pretend secret son of the
nobleman…(continued)

Greatly appreciate any help!

Warren,

It seems "rookie" wrote in rec.arts.books.tolkien:

I can tell you that none of them sound like anything by Tolkien.
Maybe you want to post your query in a fantasy group?
