Post subject: Happy 80th, John Frederick Waters! (Marine wildlife writer: "Sharks:
Archived from groups: rec>arts>books>childrens (more info?)

He lives in Chatham, Massachusetts.

"It's been over two decades since I gave up teaching to be a full-time
professional writer. I started by writing science books for children.
It was a given as I was living in Woods Hole at the time and
oceanographic and marine biological laboratories were all around me.

"I often think back to those days when I taught grade five. First
thing in the morning the kids would ask, 'What did you write last
night Mr. Waters?' Well, I'd always fall for that question. I'd close
the science or math book and start to tell them. Before I realized it
we were lining up for lunch."
