"I write young people's nonfiction because I want to learn about those
subjects myself. Each book I write involves so much research that by
the time I'm done, I feel as if I'd taken a year of college classes.
During that time I'm caught up in an entire new world of people,
facts, and ideas. (And when I'm done with the subject, I really don't
want to hear anything more about it for a long while.) The world of
writing is a magical one. My only regret is that I didn't start
sooner."
