Born in Minehead, Somersetshire, England, he now lives in Colombo, Sri
Lanka.

The winner of multiple awards, he was nominated for the Nobel Peace
Prize in 1994.

The film of "2001" was nominated for an Oscar.

He was knighted in 2000.

Some of his specifically juvenile books are:
Islands in the sky 1952,
The Young Traveller in Space 1954,
Boy Beneath the Sea 1958,
Indian Ocean adventure 1961,
Dolphin Island; a story of the people of the sea 1963,
Indian Ocean treasure 1964.

Obviously, it's been a while since I really read anything about the
movie. It was nominated for Best Screenplay, Best Art Direction and
Best Director - but won for Best Special Visual Effects.
