"Middy Thomas is a native Mainer. Though she was raised and educated
in Maine, she has lived and traveled in many of the states, Central
America, and abroad — mostly with a paintbrush in hand. She does many

About "Gooney Bird Greene":
From School Library Journal , November 2002:
Second-grader Gooney Bird Greene is new to Watertower Elementary
School. She tells fantastic stories, which are "always absolutely
true." Her clothes are always unusual, ranging from pajamas with
cowboy boots to a pink tutu over green stretch pants. In seven
chapters, she captivates her classmates with her wild tales about "How
Gooney Bird Came from China on a Flying Carpet" and "The Prince, the
Palace, and the Diamond Earrings." She assumes the role of the teacher
as she fields the class's questions about storytelling. The students
learn that stories have main characters and secondary characters, and
that using the word "suddenly" gets people's attention. In the last
chapter, she takes off her props, an orange fur jacket and a cowhide
purse, which she used to tell how her cat fell in love with a cow, and
assures her peers that everyone has all sorts of stories to
tell.......

About "A Christmas Thief" (based on a true story):
"Kenny is a little boy growing up in a Maine city with his family in
the 1930s. Christmas is coming, and some of Kenny’s relatives are
arriving while some of their neighbors are leaving town. One neighbor
couple decides to spend Christmas in New York. As such, they ask
Kenny’s family to take care of their dog Jack while they are gone.
"Jack becomes the little boy’s buddy days before Christmas; he even
comes along when Kenny, his brother, and his dad pick out a tree at
the park. While there, Jack becomes friendly with some of the hobos.
This puzzles Kenny, but soon forgets about it as preparations for
Christmas excites him more.
"On Christmas Eve, when Kenny’s family is busily preparing dinner,
Jack steals the turkey and runs down the street towards the park.
Frantic, everyone comes running after him. Jack is a good dog, he
wouldn’t steal from anyone. But why did he?..."
