_Slate_ (http://slate.msn.com/id/2086636/) picks up on a revelatory comment
from Paul Wolfowitz during congressional testimony back in February:
"It's hard to conceive that it would take more forces to provide stability
in post-Saddam Iraq than it would take to conduct the war itself and secure
the surrender of Saddam's security forces and his army. Hard to imagine."
When trying to explain away its almost complete failure to obtain any
evidence of WMD the administration is quick to point out that Iraq is a
semi-tribal semi-desert the size of California, but this salient
geographical point never seems to have occurred to its leaders when they
were penciling in post-war force numbers on the back of Pentagon stationary.

Nah. I don't consider concern for others to be all that radical,
though you may be right, er... correct.
Which part of what I said did you consider radical-left?

Dear Hay as a fellow honourable member of the wanky left I feel I ought to
take issue with your short summation of US aims in Iraq. There will be no
corporate looting of Iraq, American big business other than that part which
supplys arms to the military (and that always makes money) will not increase
its fortune there. You may not have noticed but things haven't quite
worked out the way that Bush/Rumsfeld/Cheney/Wolfowitz/Perle intended.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: "Hard to imagine ..." |

It hasn't been and will continue not to be a cakewalk for those who
are there, but those who sought profit in it are reaping significant
rewards while experiencing none of the drawbacks. I refer to those you
listed by name and their cronies. It may not work out the way they
wanted, but in the end, as usual, if they cry at all, it will be on
the way to the bank.

Perhaps you would care to list some of these 'significant
rewards'? What I mean is where real profits that have been
made not Bechtel contracts that at the moment are merely
paper.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: "Hard to imagine ..." |

Huh? Contracts only paper? Wish I'd known that before I paid my
mortgage and car bills. Do you think that those in Iraq are not
producing cash to their owners as well as political contributions
where the two are not the same? Would you say having the US military
enforcing your contracts and appointments while beginning to trian
others to do the same is profitless? Beats me what your point is,
John...

My point is as clear as a bell. This stupid war hasn't worked out well
for anybody involved in it except unfortunately for Arab fundamental
extremists. The US military is in no position to enforce contracts. To
have any hope of doing so the numbers must be increased three fold.
That is not going to happen; Bechtel, Halliburton etc are amongst the
only entities NOT going to make a 'killing' in Iraq unless, of course,
the Administration pays them off i.e. compensates them for their
efforts. >> Stay informed about: "Hard to imagine ..." |

Well, John, you have found and embraced denial IMO.

Well, you sound a lot like the folks I've seen in that newsgroup. No
offense, but you know the stuff Orwell says in Politics and the English
language about terms like "jackboot"? Well, I think you're guilty of
some of the same things in that post and some of your others. I think
you'll get more credibility around here by losing some of the hyperbole,
and you can still get the same points across.

Gosh, thanks for the advice.
I gather you would think much of what our namesake here wrote was
hyperbole too then and admonish him accordingly. I do the best I can
to call attention to the evils of this world and to lobby for changing
them. Feel free to provide me with a list of my hyperbolic statements
and I'll discuss them with you ad nauseam. In the meantime have a
lovely day, unless, of course, you have other plans.

Glad you took it in the right spirit. I think John answered your
question pretty well.

I'll list just the one that is in this thread:
"Gosh, hard to imagine when you stop massive bombing and put your
troops where your bombs fell in order to begin corporate looting
and establishing the corporate slave society that it would take more of
those troops. Bother..."
By no means lies but hyperbole make them seem so. BTW you
should be very pleased that the 'America's Century club' plans have
not worked out as they should have. There's no chance now
of further escapades in Syria and Iran.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: "Hard to imagine ..." |
