First, sorry about the word wrap, go to amazon.com and search for
"Harrius Potter"
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1582348251/qid=1058129236/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/002-0705468-3458466?v=glance&s=books&n=507846" target="_blank">http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1582348251/qid=105812923...r=8-1/r</a>

1) Why does Prof. Snape continue to not get the Defense Against Dark
Arts position? Too good a Potions Prof.? His 'dark' past?

2) Will Harry have good enough O.W.L.S. to pursue an Auror career? Or
will Fred & George (or Prof. McGonagall) have to hack into the
Hogwarts grade bank to alter the scores?

3) After book 7, will J. K. Rowling continue Harry's stories, or
license the character so someone else might?

4) What do you think Harry will be doing after schooling is over?
Auror, Defense Against Dark Arts Professor, professional quidditch
player?

I somehow get the impression that Dumbledore doesn't want him in that
position. Either or both reasons you mention may be involved. I have a
hunch there may be another reason as well, though I'm can't put my finger
on what it might be.

I really don't know. I don't even know if he'll survive it, to tell the
truth. I was certain about that even before I read an interview where
Rowling responded to that question by asking the interviewer if he was
sure Harry will survive. The truth is, he has to survive book 6, and the
vast majority of book seven. He does have to reach the final climax of
book seven. However, there is no internal reason why his final solution
couldn't be to go out and take Voldemort with him. Externally, that would
make a huge bunch of readers turn against Rowling for killing him off...
but she's never let fear of reader backlash change the plot yet.

Assuming he survives, I expect him to spend a long time convelescing
from both emotional and physical injuries. He's so far lost both parents,
a friend, and a beloved godfather... and I think he's going to lose more
before it's over.

<pause> I would be surprised if marriage - or at least a steady
girlfriend - didn't play a part in his recovery. But his job? That would
depend in large part with what his injuries left him capable of doing.

Of course, if he does not survive he can join Nearly Headless Nick as a
resident at Hogwarts. And if a ghost can teach history, why not Defense
Against Dark Arts?

I recall reading a news post someplace about that. JK is playing

One would hope that Ms. Rowling will keep the deaths to no more
than one or two.

Here's what just struck me; there was such a big hoopla about
someone dying in Book 4, that people neglected to remember that in
book 1, Prof. Quirrell died, Book 2 it was Tom Riddle. Book
3...Hmmm...that was an 'in-between' book I think; no deaths that I can
recall (please correct). Then in Book 4 we had Cedric Diggory (just
introduced; we got to know him but it wasn't quite as upsetting) and
then in Book 5, Sirius. Gad, I don't think I could take it if Ron
and/or Hermione died.

Well, I sincerely doubt it will be Hermione or Cho Chang. Hermione
is part of the 'triangle' and Cho is still grieving for Cedric. If it
were up to me, I'd guess either ("Naked Quidditch" aside) Ginny or
Luna. Either would balance Harry out nicely, Ginny with her
down-to-earth attitude that's developing or Luna with her relaxed
attitude on life.

Harry wants to be an Auror, and I woudn't be surprised if he became
their head at some point, with Ron at his side.

It will be interesting to see how well the partnership of Harry,
Ron and Hermione survive after Book 7.

could be off somewhere, "licking his wounds"

Not really. Remember, Riddle was really just a "memory" of Voldemort's
16-year-old self, implanted into that diary.

Not only that, but I have a strong suspicion that Hermione and Ron will
end up being a couple.

My money's on Luna.

Erm, no it doesn't specifically state it but for all intents and
purposes, he might as well be...unless....<gets a nasty thought>...
Quirrell's 'consciousness' has been kept in the background (like
Ande'sha in the Valdemar books) and in book 7, he regains control of
his body, realizes how 'bad' he was and destroys Voldemort by
committing suicide in some horrible fashion.

Though book 5 pretty much points to Harry as being the one, we know
nothing of Quirrell. Was he born towards the end of the 7th month?
He's certainly been 'marked' by Voldemort.

And it would possibly explain why Harry couldn't see the Thestrals
until his 5th year. Now there's a thought...

No, Dumbledore said as much to Harry at the end of book one
that Quirrell died after Voldemort left him.

I had the impression that Voldemort created a new body for
himself at the end of book 4? Or am I mistaken here?

But Harry did not see Quirrell die. He was already unconscious
by the time Dumbledore arrived to rescue him and I had the im-
pression that you actually had to see somebody die to see the
Thestrals, not simply having somebody you know die near you.

   > >>> Harry wants to be an Auror, and I woudn't be surprised if he became

I suppose we will never see that happen, if it does. Presuma-
bly Harry will meet Voldemort by the end of book seven for the
last time. Assuming that he makes the grades to be accepted as
Auror trainee, he still has three more years of study to do,
before he can even start working as one, and they will not ma-
ke him chief Auror right away Smile

Personally, I think that Hermione is going to end up Minister
of Magic at some point in time. She has the mind, and the dri-
ve to survive in politics. She will come to realise that the
only way to help the house elves is not by setting them free,
but by forcing their masters to treat them decently, and for
that she needs to become a politician Smile

The question is, of course, if Harry surives book seven...

He certainly did, using bone from his (Voldie's) father's grave,
Wormtail's hand and Harry's Blood, which also gave him an In past
Harry's immunity to his Evil Works.

I probably should have started a different thread, but this keeps it
in 'topic' so to speak.

Harry Potter - Daniel Radcliffe
Ron Weasley- Rupert Grint
Hermione Granger- Emma Watson
Hagrid - Robbie Coltrane
Albus Dumbledore - Michael Gambon
Professor Snape - Alan Rickman
Professor McGonagall - Maggie Smith
Professor Sprout - Miriam Margoyles
Madam Pince- Sally Mortemore
Colin Creevey - Hugh Mitchell
Aunt Petunia - Fiona Shaw
Uncle Vernon - Richard Griffiths
Aunt Marge - Pam Ferris
Dudley Dursley - Harry Melling
Remus Lupin - David Thewlis
Sirius Black - Gary Oldman
Draco Malfoy - Tom Felton
Lucius Malfoy- Jason Isaacs
Crabbe - Jamie Waylett
Goyle - Joshua Herdman
Fred and George Weasley- James and Oliver Phelps
Neville Longbottom - Matt Lewis
Dean Thomas - Alfie Enoch
Lee Jordan - Luke Youngblood
Filch - David Bradley
Professor Flitwick - Warwick Davis
Nearly Headless Nick - John Cleese
Peeves - Rik Mayall
Seamus Finnigan - Devon Murray
Madam Hooch - Zoe Wannamaker
Pansy Parkinson - Katharine Nicholson
Lavander Brown - Kathleen Cauley
Molly Weasley - Julie Walters
Arthur Weasley- Mark Williams
Percy Weasley - Chris Rankin
Ginny Weasley - Bonny Wright
Terrence Higgs - Will Theakston
Katie Bell - Emily Dale
Alicia Spinnet - Leila Sutherland
Angelina Johnson - Danielle Tabor
The Fat Lady Portrait - Dawn French
The Fat Friar - Simon Fisher-Becker
The Grey Lady of Ravenclaw - Nina Young
Madam Rosamerta - Julie Christie
The Bloody Baron - Terrence Bayler
Hedwig - Ook the owl
Tom from The Leaky Cauldron - Jim Tavare

We might actually get to see Peeves!! For those US peeps that don't
know Rik Mayall, he played Drop Dead Fred in the movie of the same
name.

What I find really cool is that Gary Oldman gets to play Sirius
Black, woohoo! And Lupin is played by the same actor who played that
obnoxious king in Dragonheart and the snotty bad guy in Dinotopia. It
will be interesting to see these gentleman (whom I've associated as
bad guys) play good guys for a change.

Now here's something; Snape (played by Alan Rickman) hasn't really
come off as being as much of a jerk in the movies as he has in the
books. I hope that he really changes his tune in this movie.

"The next time you think you have an excuse why God can't use you, consider the following:
Noah was a drunkard, Abraham was too old, Isaac was a daydreamer, Jacob was a liar,
Leah was ugly, Joseph was abused, Moses was a murderer, Gideon was afraid, Samson had
long hair, Rahab was a prostitute, Timothy was too young, David had an illicit affair,
Elijah was suicidal, Isaiah preached naked, Job was bankrupt, John the Baptist ran around
in a loin cloth, Peter was hot-tempered, John was self-righteous.

The disciples fell asleep while praying, Martha fretted about everything, Mary Magadalene
was demon-possessed, the boy with the fish and five rolls of bread was too obscure,
the Samaritan woman was divorced more than once, Zacchaeus was too small, Paul was too religious,
and Lazarus was dead.

No more excuses!"
