Need Help Finding Book I read in the late 80's

I am looking for help in finding a book. What I remember of the Book is that it was like a diary. The wife has recentley died and the husband is going through her things in order to give them to thier daughter. He finds a hidden, secret diary and begins to read it. He soon discovers that they viewed several events differently. Therefore he starts writting between the lines in order for thier daughter to have both view points.

For example:

Wife: I cooked a special dinner for our 1st anniversary, and he came late from work and did not even remember our anniversay.

Husband: I remember that dinner the table was so elegent, But my boss had said if i did not turn in the sales report i would be fired. I couldn't tell her that it was our anniverary.

etc....

Does it ring any bells to anyone.????????
