HELP WANTED - POSITION: MOTHER

DESCRIPTION:
Long term, team player needed, for challenging permanent work in an
often chaotic environment.
Candidate must possess excellent communication and organizational
skills and be willing to work variable hours, which will include
evenings and weekends and frequent 24 hour shifts on call. Some
overnight travel required, including trips to primitive camping sites
on rainy weekends and endless sports tournaments in far away cities.
Travel expenses not reimbursed. Extensive courier duties also
required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The rest of your life. Must be willing to be hated, at least
temporarily, until someone needs $5 or more. Must be willing to bite
tongue repeatedly. Also, must possess the physical stamina of a pack
mule and be able to go from zero to 60 mph in three seconds flat in
case, this time, the screams from the backyard cannot be determined if
someone is hurt or someone is just crying wolf. Must be willing to
face stimulating technical challenges such as small gadget repair,
mysteriously sluggish toilets and stuck zippers. Must screen phone
calls, maintain calendars and coordinate production of multiple
homework projects. Must have ability to plan and organize social
gatherings for clients of all ages and mental outlooks. Must be
willing to be indispensable one minute, an embarrassment the next.
Must handle assembly and product safety testing of a half million
cheap plastic toys, and battery operated devices. Must always hope for
the best but be prepared for the worst. Must assume final, complete
accountability for the quality of the end product. Responsibilities
also include floor maintenance and janitorial work throughout the
facility.

POSSIBILITY OF ADVANCEMENT AND PROMOTION:
Virtually none. Your job is to remain in the same position for years
without complaining, constantly retraining and updating your skills,
so that those in your charge can ultimately surpass you.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE:
None required unfortunately. On the job training offered on a
continually exhausting basis.

WAGES AND COMPENSATION:
Get this! You pay them! Offering frequent raises and bonuses. A
balloon payment is due when they turn 18 because of the assumption
that college will help them become financially independent. When you
die, you give them whatever is left. The oddest thing about this
reverse-salary scheme is that you actually enjoy it and wish you could
only do more.

BENEFITS:
While no health or dental insurance, no pension, no tuition
reimbursement, no paid holidays and no stock options are offered, this
job supplies limitless opportunities for personal growth and free hugs
for life.

Happy Mother's Day!!

Oooh, I think I'm going to have to go shopping tomorrow Smile

I don't recommend eating them until you're sick, though. I tried that
one year as a kid. In the car...

Find a Farmer's Market. I dunno what they do to supermarket
cherries, but those cherries don't wind up tasting quiiiiiite so
addictively perfect.

Ooooo. You owe your mom/dad a *nice* Mother/Father's Day card...

I can now say that it takes more than 1.5 - 2 lbs of cherries
consumed by a healthy human adult in one day to make said adult sick.

My brother heroically stepped into the gap and ate enough
cherries to cut down my supply to a non-sick-making level. How
brave he was. ;>

Errrr. I'd consider it, but the cherries are all gone now. :>

Besides, if I made a pie -- and I've done that before -- I'd have
to pit all the darn things. Easier to just eat them.

Our long time favorite summer snack was frozen Bing cherries. Just
wash them, let them dry a little, freeze them on a jelly roll pan, or
something
similar with edges to keep them from running feral all over the
freezer. Then pour them off into a ziploc bag or something. No need
to pit them.
Eat while still frozen. If you let them thaw, they are mooshy and
nasty.

We used to drive a lot between Idaho and Southern California. Going
through Nevada we would be happily eating frozen cherries and spitting
pits for
miles. <VBG>

It almost sounds as if you eat the cherries pits-and-all. :>

But we all know you are supposed to eat just the sweet part, and spit
the pits across the yard - at least I do it that way. 8 )

It does, doesn't it? No, I don't. But using the "spit it out"
technique on cherries that are intended for a pie is just
*gross*. Only ok to spit the pits if you're consuming the meat
of the cherry.

Ironically, the pits *did* wind up across the yard. But they
were transported across the yard in a bowl, with some used tea
leaves and a dead houseplant leaf or two for company. I have a
compost bin.

I think I'll return to the Farmer's Market next Saturday and look
for that particular cherry booth. Want more!

And I'll consider freezing... *some* of them. :>

Just imagine all the frustrated desert hares -- "dang those
humans, spitting out the pits and not the cherries!"

If there is a 12 step program for this would you want to know?

Unfortunately for me, there is no need for a 12 step program.
Right around mid-June cherry season ends, so -- like it or not --
I'll have to go cold turkey at that point.

Cherries still available, but not as perfectly in season, so the
flavor won't be so perfectly perfect.

There is something extra-attractive about foods that have a time
limit on them. Must eat now, won't be here tomorrow...
