Hi all!

I've been moving for the last week and can't access my hard copy of LOTR and
I need an exact quote.
When Galdalf and frodo are talking in the mines of Moria (about Gollum),
Frodo
asks Gandalf why he did not kill Gollum because Gollum deserved to die.
Gandalf's response to that is what I need.

Thanks for you help.

Jojo

You are confusing the movie and the book. The quote comes from the
chapter 'The Shadow of the Past', and occurs at Bag End.

"Deserves it! [referring to death] I daresay he does. Many that live
deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them?
Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the
very wise cannot see all ends..."

Google is your friend. Google:

deserve death gandalf

and you'll find it in 0.23 seconds. (10,700 hits!)

Interestingly, most are not the complete quote. Googling <deserve
death daresay gandalf> gives only 857 hits.
