Help to remember a book title, please.

Hi,

I read a book many years ago and can't remember the title or author.
Can anyone help me to track this down?


Unfortunately, I can only remember fragments of the story line. I
think it starts by studying a group of friends. One is rich,
successful and handsome, eliciting jealousy in some of his
associates.
He was kidnapped and taken to a mental hospital in Norway or Sweden.
He has a dislocated shoulder and when, in frustration, he assults one
of the orderlies early on in his captivity (by throwing a urine sample
over him, I think), the guard calmly
dislocates his other shoulder as a punishment. Over the years, he
gains more trust and begins to interact with some of the other
inmates
(playing chess or chequers, I think).


Eventually he escapes and heads back to the UK. The "friend" who
assisted the kidnappers has risen to power and is now a prominant
politician. Our hero gains his revenge by building up a business
empire and bringing about this politician's downfall by framing him
by
putting indecent images on his laptop.


Its not much to go on, I know, but can anyone name the book and the
author?

Many years ago.... laptop.... hmmmmmm. Unless you are very young and "many"
means less than 10, this doesn't compute.
