I read a message by David Weber at the Baen FAQ's website that cable
channels, and studios are interested in making a tv series based on
the novels. Has their been any word on whether there has been any
progress on this?

The only word I have heard has been of further non-progress.

Not for the last 5 years, or so. The possibility keeps popping up, but
nothing happens. >> Stay informed about: Honor Harrington TV Series? |

Honor's pulling out an unlikely victory from wherever they are hiding
is tolerable once a book, and was even enjoyable for the first six
books, or so. Honor being thrust into an unwinnable situation, and
then doing something miraculous within the span of forty-six minutes
(an hour with the commercial breaks) would strain my willing
suspension of disbelief past the breaking point.
Casting for the series would be a bit nightmarish as Honor needs to be
played by a robust, yet attractive, six-footer, or everyone else needs
to be scaled appropriately. Another potential problem is the visual
effects of prolong. Either the apparent ages have to be fixed, or the
series might be decried as blatant booster of the impossible cult of
youthfulness forever. The series might be better done as a CGI show. >> Stay informed about: Honor Harrington TV Series? |

Well that sucks. I would love to see a series based on the novels. I
don't care if they get everything exactely right. According to what I
read at Baen, neither does David Weber. Which is good, because how
many 6'2" Asian women you know built solidly and with Martial Arts
expertise? lol...
Anyway, thanks for answering everyone.

Yeah, people just wouldn't put up with that. Not like they did with 80
episodes of Captain Kirk, (102 if you count the animated series), 178
episodes of Captain Picard, 176 episodes of Captain Sisko, 172 episodes
of Captain Janeway, 98 episodes with Captain Archer, and various and
sundry movies.
You don't need the impossible battles against unbeatable odds in every
episode. You save those for the season ending cliffhangers. Set it
earlier in Honor's career. Use OBS as the pilot, then send her off to
hunt pirates in Silesia for a while. Toss in some diplomatic stuff,
occasional bouts of Havenite skulduggery, and so on.

Be interesting to see which makes the visual media first: Honor
Harrington, or F. Paul Wilson's "Repairman Jack" character...

ST:TOS suffered more from improbable situations than improbable
victories. Very few of Kirk's accomplishments came out of nowhere.
Often, the solution was slowly being worked up throughout the
episode.
The animated series was meant for children, but much of the writing
was very tightly done, and The Stasis Box is well worth tracking
down.
ST:TNG was often a pale shadow, with much much better effects. IMHO,
Encounter at Farpoint was such an execreble piece of work, I only saw
the first season in reruns. I did eventually see them all, all seven
seasons, but it never met my expectations.
ST:DS9 was much improved by having to compete for an audience with
Bab5 seasons 1-4 (season 5 was not written in advance, and it shows).
Much of the success of the later series of Star Trek franchises was
due to SF fans not having anything else to watch. Maybe I am too
picky, but I watched less than twenty (possibly less than ten)
episodes of Janeway/Archer and do not feel that I have missed
anything.
Much as I have nasty things to say about some aspects of Honorverse, I
do own most of the books in hardcover, the rest in paperback. >> Stay informed about: Honor Harrington TV Series? |
