So, I've gotten it in my head to do a Honor Harrington cosplay of some
sort for sci-fi cons in Texas. I'm kind of a short guy, so I figured I
might cosplay as a Grayson officer. Any suggestions on how to do this?
I was thinking getting a surplus Air Force uniform (or a thrift store
suit of a similar color) and getting someone to embroider the gold rank
stuff onto the cuffs. The hard part will be making the patches for it.
Everything else described could just be a US Air Force uniform.
Failing that, what other cosplay ideas can anyone think of?

Just think of it as Costume/Play (aka Skit). If you value your sanity,
don't pursue it any further. >> Stay informed about: Honorverse Cosplay? |

Basically it's playing dressup, on rare occasion taken to
impressive/amusing/frightening extremes. Basically, you put the costume
together, and try to stay in character as much as you care to. Some
conventions will have costume contests where people judge you on your
costume (at AggieCon a few years ago, four 17 year old girls won Miss
AggieCon for being collectively dressed as Jabba The Hutt), and
sometimes you will be expected to perform a short skit in character to
compete in these contests.
Like I said, some people are really cool about it, some people are just
freaking scary.

When I attended NasFic this past summer, I saw a young woman in a wonderful
Manticoran Naval uniform. It was very well done, very true to the books (as
best I could tell) and she was very attractive.
Alas, I didn't have my camera with me.
But it's definitely doable. >> Stay informed about: Honorverse Cosplay? |

That's the great thing about dressing up as a military officer, many of
the uniforms have been sufficiently described to make a run at. We've
seen illustrations of RMN uniforms on the Mattingly covers, and like I
said, a Grayson navy uniform sounds like a US Air Force uniform with
cuff braids and some different patches on it.
If all else fails, you can just make a baseball t-shirt and say you play
for the Harrington Treecats. :*D

Only 10% in costume or in a furry costume?
