Another pleasure of the WFC was getting to see a copy of this book, edited
by Steve Jones and Kim Newman, to which we contributed a piece on
Wakefield's THEY RETURN AT EVENING. We knew of a few other contributors and
their choices, but this was out first opportunity to see all 100 books
chosen, and who wrote about what. A quick skim shows it to be a very
interesting title, with a mix of old and new, expected and unexpected. A
quick consult with Steve showed that some 22 contributors to the book were
in Madison, and we got most of them to sign in the appropriate spots. Well
worth looking for.

Barbara (still kicking herself for forgetting to pack her British first in
hb of Peter Straub's GHOST STORY; we shall be seeing Peter in New York in
January, and he said he'd be happy to sign it then. Still. . . .)

And haven't you just gotta love that Tom Adams dust jacket on the UK
first? Much more attractive than the US edition.

That's a clever title, sounds much better than "Horror: 100
Second-Best Books." Wink

Oops, I see I made the same "joke" on April 16, 2004. Please
disregard this instance of it. I guess you can tell I am amused by
sequels to "best-of" collections. I am also amused that there has
been not just one, but several sequels to "Final Fantasy." What does
"final" even mean anymore?!

Bill B., finally

(After taking a year off from reading fiction, I have recently begun
reading Gormenghast, with the modest goal of finishing it by
Christmas.)
