So where did all those Archenlanders and Calormenes come from in "The
Horse and His Boy"? I assume they're sons of Adam and daughters of Eve,
but maybe not. They're not Telmarines. It's too early for that. And
within the lifetime of a few minor characters (Susan, Edmund, Lucy,
Tumnus) it was possible to question whether humans even existed.

Hadn't anyone been over the hill to Archenland to take a gander? The
Witch didn't seem too concerned about her borders for someone who had
plenty of potentially prophecy-fulfilling humans less than a day's ride
away.

IIRC the Archenlanders came from the decendents of Frank and Helen.
their children married wood nymphs etc. (I wonder if there are male
nymphs for the daughters?). Supposedly the Calormenes are decended
from a further group of the same people who were criminals and went
that far south to escape pursuit or something. So technically speaking
all humans in the Narnian world are quite removed from being Sons of
Adam or Daughters of Eve...

As to why the Witch never was concerned with Archenland being asource
of trouble for her--I think the place hadn't been invented yet by the
author. And like may dictatorial socieities she may have prevented her
subjects from travelling too far. Probalby spread stories of demons or
dragons living outside Narnia's borders...

But the Pevensie children wouldn't be any closer. They'd be younger and
lower in rank too, in Lewis's heirarchial universe, since they were a later
generation than Frank and Helen or Digory and Polly.

Smile))) If the fossils could be planted in our 4004 BC, why not?

Put they would still be pureblooded sons of Adam and daughters of Eve.

However, what holds true is probably that this was the first book and
Lewis made it up as he went along. Which is fine by me.

Hm? Frank and Helen had descendents, and some pirates got in through some
other gate later. But why aren't they all pureblooded sons of Adam etc,
just as much as the Pevensies? Do you think Jadis interbred with some of
them? It doesn't seem like her. Smile

The 2nd son of Frank and Helen was the first King of Archenland. I assume
that Tash imported humans into Calormene.

She had lots of nasty creatures to guard the border with.
