Post subject: The Joan Letter - A Review
Archived from groups: alt>books>beatgeneration (more info?)

I have been dipping into the abb archives for the most famous Letter to
Garcia of the fifties. Here are ten facts I have learned.

(1) The Joan Anderson letter from Dec 1950 is in The First Third
(2) ... is not in The First Third
(3) .... was 40K words long and "the greatest piece of writing" K ever saw
(4) ... was loaned to Gerd Stern by Ginsburg, and blew off the boat of the
former in "Sausalito Bay"
(5) ... indeed is in The First Third but not the whole thing...
(6) ...was not lost by Gerd Stern, who actually gave it back to Ginsberg
and then later became poet laureate of Wisconsin or some such - Stern, not
....
(7) ...was published in truncated form in Notes From Underground magazine,
and appears in TFT.
(Cool ...is not the same as the Sex on the Bus letter from March 1947; that's
another Joan.
(9) ...was made into a movie called "The Last Time I Committed Suicide."
(10) ...appears in Neal Cassady's Collected Letters

Hope that clears up The Joan Letter for everyone.
