since there doesn't seem to be a group for Fante, I'll post here, since
Fante fans and Bukowski fans often overlap.

I love Fante's novels, but I am confused by the fact that while they are
feature the same character, Arturo Bandini, they don't seem to actually
be the same character -- in one, he's got 2 brothers, in another, he's
just got 1 sister. In one book, he's from San Pedro, CA, but in two
others, he's from Boulder, CO. Seems strange to me. Comments?

By the way, Ask the Dust, his most famous novel, is being made into a
movie for 2005 release, staring Colin Farrel, Salma Hakey, and Donald
Sutherland!

And that's the typical pitiful end which awaits all reasonable problems
posted to this NG once they unfortunately get answered by a member of the
crappy gang which has been ruling here for a coupla months.

And you, poor narrow-minded, single-sided boys, think you're so much like
Buk, don't you? Yeah, big ones & co., shit! I think Hank'd be puking all day
if he bothered to read your seemingly "brilliant" replies...

What a pity you have free access to the Internet...

Worst to you all,
DomR

Jaxon, if you want to really discuss Buk & Fante, write me piv and we'll
talk.

============================

Allow me to restore some literary lustre to a discussion that has
veered into acrimony, pettiness and just plain orneriness. If you want
to know more about Bandini just read the bloody books.

THERE IS NO BUKOWSKI BUT BUKOWSKI AND HIS NAME IS BUKOWSKI

Yeah... I read quite a bit of Fante and Bukowski

there does seem to be some overlap although Buk comes off as more
of a bad-ass of course.

With fiction...no matter how much of it is based in truth...
there is of course no real need for consistancy between one book and the
next.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
