There's a lot of great Vonnegut criticism out there, particularly by
Jerome Klinkowitz. However, your first stop should be a book by Marc Leeds
called The Vonnegut Encyclopedia. It lists and describes every mention of
Trout in Vonnegut's novels through Hocus Pocus, and includes most of
Trout's novels and short stories. Someone, preferably Leeds, really ought
to bring the Encyclopedia up to date with Timequake and GBYDK and so on.
Also, Albert Finney should be mentioned.
In addition to the Encyclopedia, familiarize yourself with these:
Klinkowitz, Jerome. Vonnegut in America. NY, Delacorte, 1977.
Reed, Peter. The Vonnegut Chronicles. Westport, CN, Greenwood, 1996.
Reed, Peter and Marc Leeds. Kurt Vonnegut: Images and Representations.
Westport, Greenwood, 2000. (Espeically the 5th chapter by Reed on Trout.)
Merrill, Robert. Critical Essays on Kurt Vonnegut. Boston, GK Hall, 1990.
That's probably enough to get you started!
