So now that Talon has :
Found Eye of the Blue Winged Teal
taken her son as his own and
led her into "an unknown future", what now for Talon ? i mean Pug
discharged him from the Conclave of Shadows and Talon has killed Leso
Varen.
I got the impression that Talwin/Talon wouldn't be such a prominent
charachter in the next book. Any thoughts about this or the mysterious
rift Leso Varen was working on ?

I think we'll see Tal again because the Duke is still alive... and
Leso may not reallllly be dead. Bad guys have a tendency to do that.

Well, given the name of the next book, Exiles Return.... If the Duke
returns, I'm sure he'd be after Tal in some way!!
Am I just dense, or is King of Foxes not for sale in the US yet? I've
gotten mine from Amazon.UK not too long ago, but just check Amazon.COM and
says still not available. And I'm wondering if I'll be buying Exiles Return
via the same method...
Kinda sucks, I read King of Foxes in 2 days, now I'm gonna have to wait
MONTHS for more..

You're not dense. I believe it won't be released until April.
Ray has explained that his US distributor likes to release books in
the Fall, whereas the in the UK Spring is preferred.

What do you guys think of the Rift that Leso Varen was working on ?
Ray said that at least once this series Magnus would be taking a trip
to the Tsurani home world, so hopefully we'll get to see some Black
Robes.
And do you think we'll be seeing Tal return to the Masters Court ? Pug
did say that he could get him pardoned in Roldem .....
And one last thing ...... what sort of blade does Talwin use ? In
Talon of the Silver Hawk it seems kinda general and i get the
impression he was using a long sword, but in King of Foxes it mentions
him choosing a rapier from the Prison Armoury. Any help from anyone
here or Mr Feist Himself would be appreciated ?

I've got the impression that he's been using mainly rapier. Moreover,
rapier would be easier to use with the left hand (if you found a
rapier with a left-handed hilt) because of its weight.
<rant>
I still get a bit
miffed when Ray or someone else refers to rapier simply as a thrusting
weapon, when it's actually used for both cutting and thrusting in the
early stages of its development (which, I assume, Midkemia is about since
firearms haven't been developed there). Also, it is often referred to as a
relatively short sword when it's usually much longer than the regular
broad or long sword (According to many swordsmasters of the middle
ages (Ghisliero, for example), the quillions of a rapier should at
least reach its wielder's navel)...

I would have to say it would be a rapier, also helps when you consider that
its use is closely related to sporting fencing, which I'm sure is based on
such competitions as in the Masters Court.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: King of Foxes (contains Spoilers) |

The problem with describing weapons is that many of the names were
applied to massively different weapons.
It is misleading to assume that because guns aren't present in
Midkemia it's at the same stage as earth was pre-guns.
Ray has stated that the Midkemian gods don't allow guns (well, that's
not entirely true, apparently in the campaign there were some that
worked in a small area and stopped if they were taken out of the
area), I'm not a history expert but I'd have thought that you could
certainly case for the Eastern section of the Kingdom to be a closer
match to renaissance than anything before it

You're right, of course. The name 'rapier' was especially popular for
almost any slender straight blade in the 15th and 16th centuries, be it
edged or not. Still, I'd like to read some explanation on what has caused
the abandonment of heavy armor and the development of light thrusting
swords in Midkemia. On Earth, this was due to the development of firearms.
It would be easier to understand if the Kingdom was extremely peaceful and
never at war (thus, no need for heavy armor and weapons), but the books
make it sound as if they have to fight against someone all the time...
Well, perhaps its a leap of faith that one must take...

That may be a reasonable assumption, that they are at war with someone all the
time. Go back to Renaissance-era Europe and all you reead about is this little
war, that little war, etc. If the English weren't fighting the Spanish, they
were fighting the French, Dutch, or Swedes. It was never-ending.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: King of Foxes (contains Spoilers) |
