You voted 1+i to all subjects. In other word, you voted sqrt(2)exp(i*45°)
The length of your vote-vector (if I can give it this name) is 1.41, meaning
that you give a "almost absolutely" grade to all the points.
Now you still have to explain me why is your vote 45° twisted out of the
real axis? Do you live on foot in the real world and the other in another
dimension?

'Tis a good universe, maticulately created and defined containing very
accurate (and quite engrossing) geneologies and histories, as well as
myth and legend. I've read Tolkien's works many a time. You should
too.
> 2. Is LOR your personal bible?
I though the Bible was the Bible?
> 3. Do you think LOR is great literature?
Of course. Far better than today's nonsense "pop-fiction" with it's
cheep plots and shotty work. And I mean every modern fantasy novel.
The author's seem to care more for money than for their work. So far,
I have not sing a single person rise to accomplish was Tolkien has
done.
> 4. Are you satisfied with the movies?
Did I enjoy them? Yes. Am I satisfied? Quite definitly not...
> 5. Would you like to kick Peter Jackson in the groin?
Now that would be illogical.
> 6. Did you get started on Tolkien at a very young age?
Young compared to what? 'Get started'? As if I have not yet finished?
And no, I've never been on Tolkien. Don't speak such nonesense!
> 7. If you hadn't read the book, did the movies make you want to read
> Tolkien?
If I had not read the book, I appearently am so illiterate and
"entertaiment-seeking" that the book would not apeal to me anyway and
thus I would search for a teen magazine or watch some television and
destroy all imagination and thought I have ever had instead of filling
my mind with knowledge from books.

3 - I'm not obsessed. I understand people who are though, because it's
an interesting world.
> 2. Is LOR your personal bible?
5 - I have no personal bible, except for maybe Hitchhiker's Guide to
the Galaxy.
> 3. Do you think LOR is great literature?
3 - It's a good myth, and well-told. I'm not qualified to say if it's
great literature or not.
> 4. Are you satisfied with the movies?
1 - as a whole, yes.
2 - Individually, they each had some problems. Nothing serious though.
> 5. Would you like to kick Peter Jackson in the groin?
5 - No, and anyone who does, either because they're LOTR purists, or
because they hate everything LOTR, is an idiot. Life's too short to
hate a director who made a movie you don't like. I like Peter
Jackson. The only reason I went to see The Fellowship of the Ring was
because I liked Jackson's other movies. I would have been there
opening night no matter what the film. It just happened to be LOTR.
> 6. Did you get started on Tolkien at a very young age?
5 - I generally only read non-fiction and never went through a fantasy
phase.
> 7. If you hadn't read the book, did the movies make you want to read
> Tolkien?
1 - YES! Before I saw the first movie I didn't even know what the
story was. Right up until the lights went down I had ZERO knowledge or
interest in the world of LOTR. I was enthralled and enraptured. I
started reading The Hobbit that night, and finished the 4 main books
in the next few weeks. I'm certain I never would have read them if not
for the movies. Thank you Peter Jackson.
> 8. Are the movies better than the book?
5 - Few movies are. Ilove the books, and I love the movies, and I'm
able to keep them separate.
> 9. Are LOR movie better than Star Wars movies?
3 - Star Wars and Fellowship are both in my All-Time Favorites list. I
feel closer to LOTR now.
> 10. Are you also a Star Wars fan?
2 - I saw the original SW over 100 times in the theater on FIRST
release. I've liked each one less than the one before, except I
thought AOTC was better than TPM. I liked them all very much, but I
*LOVED* the first two. I don't "*LOVE*" any of the others.
> 11. Are you a Trekkie?
5 - Not at all.
> 12. Are you a cineaste?
2 - I'd like to think my sympathies lie that way, though there are
hundreds of classics and foreign films I still want to see. Time and
money is always a factor. I love all kinds of movies, if they're good,
no matter what country/language, genre or age. I just don't have the
breadth of knowledge of someone like Jonathan Rosenbaum.
Just going by what's in the theaters now, I can enjoy ROTK one day,
then enjoy The Triplets of Belleville the next. I enjoyed Bad Santa
AND Girl With A Pearl Earring. I enjoyed Big Fish AND 21 Grams. I
hated Paycheck and wouldn't see Cat In The Hat if you paid me. People
who can't enjoy a wide variety of good movies are missing out.
I read that you saw ROTK without even seeing The Two Towers first. To
then go and trash ROTK for things that you would have understood had
you seen the 2nd movie is pathetic. You don't have to like the movies,
but I'm puzzled as to why you would spend so much time writing about
it. Don't you have better things to do? >> Stay informed about: LOR question |

He answered 12 questions, each question 45 degrees out of phase with the
other. Therefore the total phase shift of the sum of the whole test,
is (since 45 deg = pi / 4 radians) = 12 * (pi /4 ) = 3pi. In other
words, the sum total of the test score is -1.4.
Which is a mathematically elegant way of saying "12 stupid questions add
up to something repulsive, and I wil give no real answers."

Define "obsessed". It's played an important part in my cultural life for
decades, but I certainly don't think about it 24/7. Sometimes as many as two
or three years have gone by at a time without my thinking about it much at
all. My Tolkien indulgences tend to descend upon me sporadically, like a
recurring case of irrational euphoria. Generally 2 to 4 weeks of fevered
wallowing in the entire LOTR oeuvre-- and I have a copy of everything JRRT
has ever written, LOTR-related or otherwise, along with the entire run of
Christopher Tolkien's "History" series-- and then it's fondly back on the
shelf 'til next time. Thanks to all the discussion of ROTK, I'm in the
middle of one of these phases right now, and I'm having a great time.
Something else will come along when I've had enough. I watched a DVD of the
restored version of Vigo's "L'Atalante" tonight, in part to keep myself
balanced.
>

I try to live a life that doesn't require bibles.

Who cares? I've loved the book for years without ever worrying if it is. I
think it's a very fine work of literature, but measuring it against, for
example, Joyce, Homer, Lady Murasaki, or Proust takes one uncomfortably far
into apples-and-oranges territory.

Heh. Don't get me started. See # 5.

Rather than sully my footwear, I would prefer to see him stomped by a trio
of very large chain-wielding Orcs.

Dunno. Is 15 young?
>

Inapplicable.

Based on your numerical scale, I'd have to give this one a (conservative)
score of about a million.
>

Purely as movies? Probably. What the hell does it matter?
>
> 10. Are you also a Star Wars fan?
I enjoyed the first three SW movies, way back when, for what they are--
enjoyable popcorn movies-- but I would hardly call myself a "fan". The more
recent SW films have been execrable.
>
> 11. Are you a Trekkie?
I am often astonished-- and somewhat embarassed-- when I realize that I've
seen every episode of STNG, but I pretty much lost all interest in things
Trekkian when it went off the air (incredibly short-sighted decision on
Paramount's part). I liked the response of the guy earlier in this thread
who said he used to be, but Rick Berman beat it out of him. Incidentally, I
also harbor the perhaps curious belief that Patrick Stewart-- in heavy
makeup-- might have made a good Denethor (certainly better than the shmoe
they used), had the film(s) been truer to the book.

I regularly read the magazine of that name, so I guess I must be.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

Yes. 1

If you mean if I consider it perfect, um, definitely not.
So 3?

Yeah. 1

No. 4

No. But I would like to sit him down and force him to
read something like the analysis in Shippey's "The
Road to Middle-earth".
3

I was probably about 10 years old.
So let's call it a 2?

Non-applicable.

No. 5

Hmm... Yes. 2

Only a mild one. I *have* gotten and even enjoyed some
Starwars books, but since I never even bothered to see
the movies of the new trilogy more than one time each,
I could probably not be called a "true" StarWars fan.
3

mmm... not really, not anymore, I guess.
3

I don't even know what that means. Do I *want* to know?

1, at least when comparing one troll to another, Anthony Gaza (Lisa's real
name) gets extra points for his tenacity and self delusion that most people
can't spot or recognize his latest pseudonym.

3, he starting to get a little old, repetitive and lame.

Most definitely a 5 at times

1, According to Dereck Janssen, [the difinative expert on Gaza] in his
post/thread "Gaza-spotting 101," Gaza is a red-haired, overweight,
wheelchair bound HS student.
To this, "Lisa" replied:
" "Gaza", whom I've met at the local art theater, is not fat, doesn't
use a wheelchair, is 36 yrs old, and can most definitely kick your
butt."
True Troll form, Gaza believes that we are niave enough to believe that not
only is "Lisa" is a real person, but actually knows him(self) while
threatening Dereck in a round about way for spoiling his "fun."
Another dead givaway is that "Lisa" forgot she(he) admitted knowing Gaza in
another thread, "Name your favorite Gaza pen-name" just a day or two later,
while taking a stab at Dereck's intelligence.
"Lisa's" post/reply
"This 'gaza' should get paid for babysitting you. 'Gaza' keeps Derek's
mind busy with silly games."

Unfortuantly I aready have...

-10 [as in minus ten, or better than by a factor of ten.]
>
> 9. Does LM troll better in AFT or in other newsgroups?
3, only because he gets more people to bite at his trollings which sometimes
lead to a deceant thread.
>
> 10. Are you a fan of LM's trolling?
A 3 again, for the same reason as my answer to #9

> 11. Are you a fan of other trolling?
3, when the herd is properly thinned and controlled, the occasional rogue
Troll is somewhat humorous and entertaining.
However, if overfed (as in replying too much to its threads) and not
ridiculed enough, the average Troll can quickly multiply, driving out all
other posters and turning a formly decent newsgroup in to a barren
wasteland.

I think I already made my opinion clear on that one.

Argonath Question - Were there more than two statues at or near the Argonath? The reason I ask is that in the movie, Frodo walks by a very large toppled head. Also we see several smaller statues about Amon Hen. Or were there only the two statues before the falls of Rauos?.. |
