That's at work; this is at home. Trying to catch up on the backlog
from a (computer-free) holiday last week. This group has more traffic
than just about any other I read -- cpp is a limpid backwater by
comparison. Vaguely relevant to both NGs, though, I've been working
on a Tengwar design -- still on paper but I'm just about ready to
take it into Fontographer.

Intriguing. Wink

I wrestled with Quenya and Sindarin for a time many years ago and whilst
I can still make out a few words and phrases I confess my grasp of these
languages is limited. Although I am by no means well up on the current
availability of Tengwar fonts in either T1 or TT formats (never mind
OT!), the last time I looked there were quite a few around.

What's different about yours? I might be interested in illustrating a
few of the hobbit parodies on my infamous website with your masterpiece
if you were agreeable to such a use (misuse?).

As for cpp being "a limpid backwater" I confess I much prefer it's calm
and placid waters to the very *hot* water that many contributors to Rabt
and aft delight to plunge into. With few and rare exceptions cpp is
rather like a gentleman's club (with a few honourable lady members) and
I cannot recall the last time anyone actually abused anyone with
anything like the ferocity and puerility which so often typifies
exchanges here.

Must dash, It's time for Derek's blanket bath. Smile

Best wishes,

Try reading rec.photo.digital for a while.

Now _that_ is a high volume group (and one with a very low S/N ratio).

My Elvish has never been more than very rudimentary, but note that
Tolkien also adapted the Tengwar to English -- in fact some of his
manuscripts were so written. The most easily found sample is on the
title page of several _LotR_ editions. But I intend to make a
complete character set regardless.

It's based on blackletter or "gothic" forms, much stiffer and less
delicate than the usual cursive style. Playing a bit on the
heavy-metal-satanic-bondage ethos I'm thinking of calling it
_Angband_ -- Angband 85 will be particularly Black. Wink

I rarely killfile posters, but I kill eagerly on subjects, which is,
for me, a both more relevant and more efficient (it also takes care
of the follow-ups to messages I don't care about).

Tools->Message Rules->News->New

Messages to AFT and RABT
Where the subject contains (list of offensive words including such
words as "Oscar" "Jackson" "movie", "film" and words referring to
current political discussions)
mark it read
ignore the thread
delete it

Fortunately I remembered to add "oscar" to my list before I downloaded
on Monday - there were surprisingly few messages in AFT and RABT ...

Oh dear. Oh dear oh dear. I *do* hope that you're not going to repeat
the mistake of a certain very naughty Maiar, who used the beautiful
letters of the Quenya language to write rude and threatening limericks
on the inside of golden rings in the 'Black' speech?

If you do, stay well away from volcanoes.
