Leon Tabory. Cannot remember seeing the name before.

He still writes about the potential benefits of various drugs,
including tobacco. I think the jury has been back in a long time on
that one, and the others seem to have unliving testimony from his
friend Neal and his friend Jack, plus millions of others. I don't
think anything ever resulted from experimenting with pharmaceuticals
other than some serotonin released and much distortion happening.

Interesting that in defense of Neal Cassady he proposes that the
father in the family may be an atavism for back when the kiddies were
threatened by wild beasts. Oh, boy. Tell that to the kiddies.

Also says Neal wasn't a conman, by his definition, because he `gave of
himself.' That's exactly the rationale Joe Dimaggio used to defend
his use of mobs of servile serfs over the years. If one of them
complained of the abuse, he'd say, 'You're here, aren't you?' In
other words, you are in the presence of the Great Dimaggio, and that
should be sufficient.

Is there any record of any time at all when Neal Cassady ever repaid a
single one of all those `loans' he was always asking and receiving of
supporters?

Last note: On The Barn, which was genuinely a sixties holy relic in
Santa Cruz County - and I've never heard it referred to after the
seventies. Mr Tabor saw all kinds of support in more recent years; he
says he'd go downtown in Santa Cruz and folks would come up to thank
him for his part in creating The Barn.

Dubious. I'll bet you could survey all day down on Pacific Avenue
downtown among the teenage and transient junkies and juicers and
tourists today and you would find no one who has any idea what you
mean by The Barn.

A local historian has written it much better than I could, because it was a
few years before my time. But this is a good account of how the sixties
came to Santa Cruz.

Yes Mr. T, I ask who he is too. Do u remember reading abt him
anywhere? He has personal pictures of himself and his family on his
site, so he must be the real thing. Another question. Who is the guy
(name Charles?) doing the interview? Is it Plymell? He mentions the
Batman gallery, which I recall reading abt in regard to Neal. Also,
any more data on Peter Angel? Who in the world is he. I do remember
Anne speaking of him but can't recall specifics. THANKS.

The only prison contact I recall hearing of from when I was in touch with
Carolyn Cassady so long ago was Gavin Arthur. He lectured in San Quentin
and became acquainted with Neal there, and Neal turned Carolyn onto him, and
she was a rabid groupie of Gavin Arthur in late 1972 (and who knows how long
after; I'd be very interested in knowing how long she maintained that
focus).

Here are some more URLs I found on the sixties in and around Santa Cruz.
Each of these leads off in different directions and you cross your own
pathway a time or two.

John say:

I think we're down to the Third Tier now. These are guys who hung around
local hot spots on the left coast and came into contact with the principals
once in their lives.

First Tier - ran with the wolves; were part of the original pack

Second Tier - hung out with the pack at non-critical junctures

Third Tier - were in the presence at least once, hung with Second Tier

Fourth Tier - idolized the pack; behaved like wolverines

Probably every movement, from art to rock to Hollywood, has a similar
star-to-fan structure.
