In Australia, it's generally the number of pubs (> 5, I think) and
the presence of fast food places like McDonald's that separate
towns fromcities  Danny on afp<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Life really _isn't_ fair :-( |

And in todays news: an ex-cow orker who we were trying to organise the
latest "keep in touch" pub meet & meal with, is in hospital. Having had
a couple of recent falls and been taken to hospital with a broken hip,
they have discovered that the "known about" tumour on his lung (presumed
stable and under control) wasn't - it's attacking his brain and bones.
I rather doubt that he's coming back from this one. 8-(>

Thank you one and all. I really appreciate having a place I can come to

Extra large hugs floating ovet the Potomac. Good thing for you,
e-hugs are germ free as I've managed to get bronchitis (yet again) and
hubby's got some sort of germ. But we shall overcome! We'll leave
you on the prayer list and him as well.

I did a quick google as well. There's what looks like a really
energetic support group out there, which may help. But the last thing
you or he or his kids needed was yet another thing to worry about.

Maybe it did; we have an update from the original doom'n'gloom version:
The bone problem was from the original outbreak (supposedly fixed) and
they have removed that and fitted a new joint. He's had a whole-body
scan, and the bit in the brain will be zapped with radiotherapy, as it
may have been part and parcel of the lung problem that he had chemo and
radiotherapy to zap. He's currrently putting on weight (helped by steroids),
and reckoned to be 'out and about' with the aid of crutches soon.
We're all hoping so, we want to see him down the pub again.
Thanks for the hugs and sympathy.

This is so great to hear.
My friend starts radiation therapy soon. So we'll see what happens. He
seems in pretty good spirits thus far. We have been discussing the
possiblity of me setting up two beds in my daughter's room for his girls
to sleep in on the nights he works, that way they won't have quite such
a busy evening, what with taking the girls off to someplace they will be
supervised overnight, and can ride the bus to school, and it would be
much easier on all concerned. (Mostly because we are walking distance
from his house, and everyone else is up the road a ways, so they could
have a family meal, then walk over for bedtime rituals etc...)

His view (during the original chemo/radiotherapy)was along the lines of
"I've been paying into the pension scheme for 'X' years, now, I AM
DAMNED WELL GOING TO GET MY MONEY'S WORTH OUT OF IT!"
<Consultant> "That's the best attitude."
Chris.
(I want to buy him several beers[1], and for him to have a long and
