Was Kerouac's supposed affinity for Lowell genuine or was it really
just heartfelt nostalgia of childhood? It seems to be more of the
latter, as he kept away from his hometown till death. Is it true that
he referred to Lowell as the "stinktown on the Merrimack?"
I bring this up because Lowell seems to be using Kerouac as a
desperate grab for a tiny tourist market by a few dedicated fans who
may be swaying Kerouac's values for their spare time and milking - at
least that was what it was like when I visited.
