Saw a copy in a bookshop yesterday. No Niven story in it. Four stories by
Colebatch about the "Wunder War".

Regards,
Peter.

If your a bit disappointed that most of the "Man/Kzin" stories are by
authors,unknown...so am I. I thought "The Man who would be Kzin" by Greg
Bear and S.M Stirling was pretty good in M/K #6.

Well I think generally the Man Kzin wars sells to people with a Klingon fetish.
There is only one, maybe two, Niven stories in the entire series of books.
There is a reason Niven doesn't really write about this segment of Known Space
history himself, beyond wanting as little to do with known space as possible,
and its because he doesn't get off on the details of war. Probably a thing
better avoided. Lust for and enrapture in the details tends to help lead to
more.

From what I read in it's not so much that he doesn't "get off" on war as his
knowledge of the tactics involved in warfare is somewhat limited. He has
never been in the military and feels that war would be better written by
someone who has some experience in the matter (like Pournelle).

Thats a nice way of saying it merely doesn't interest him. That doesn't mean
that he doesn't sometimes find it a probable necessity to certain stories he
wishes to tell, else he would not be collaborating with Pournelle for that
reason.

No. It's his stated position.
And actually, he has been getting more interested in it, as the
history of the Man-Kzin wars has been fleshed out. That's why he's
started to write in this part of Known Space history himself.
