Great moment: At the end, the lion which Edmund had drawn the glasses
and mustache on still had those marks on his face! I can envision
animals lined up around the castle waiting for Edmund to draw "The Mark
of King Edmund The Just" on their faces!

I can also envision Edmund having an honor guard of animals that he has
drawn glasses and mustaches on!

of the Garter started when one court lady's garter was loose and
fell off her leg, and the king picked it up and put it on his own

Allegedly so, together with the motto -' Honi soi qui mal y pense'.
Don't know which monarch it was, though.

Yes. "Sahmed be he who speaks ill of it", rendered in French.

Can you translate the motto?

Literally, it's 'Shamed be whoever thinks ill of it'. There's probably
a better way to render it in English, though.

"Evil be he who thinks evil of it," comes from whatever recesses
of my mind held the story in the first place. As you can see, it
adds a repetition not in the original, which I like, but which
may not be wanted in a strict translation.

Just over a week has past since the above post, so now I can mention
Edmund's mark again. I can now suggest that Edmund make a seal for his
official messages that has glasses and a mustache on it. Peter can make a
seal that has either a lion or a dead wolf on it. Susan can use an arrow or
a horn, and Lucy can use a faun!

Or Lucy could use a picture of her cordial.
