Yes, and if you were at all interested in topicality, those horrible
threads wouldn't be here. But you want it to be a "fun" place, rather
than a place that's tolerable, so here they are. Good luck with them.

This is Usenet. Anyone can post anything on any newsgroup they like.
Regular contributors might also strike up friendships and discuss the
occasional OT thing. Sometimes the OT things can become more frequent than
the on-topic threads...but at least the OT posts keep the regulars
interested in the newsgroup when there is nothing on-topic to discuss.
Rather than lambasting people for OT posts, why not post something on-topic
and ignore the OT posts.
Respect other people, and get over it...This is Usenet, not real life.
Just my tuppence worth

ROFL...that would have given your ISP a good belly laugh ;o)
If people want strictly on-topic groups then I can only suggest they set up
their own *moderated* group, where they can *rule the world* all they
like...

I'm sure it would have <g>.

Indeed. Or just STFU. That's a much simpler answer.

Have a great day!

But the 'Sore' thread, By FAR, isn't the best we can do here.

Keep the faith, contribute On Topic if possible and, well, have fun.

btw- on a personal note: I know lately I have been argumentative but I'm
reigning it in.

Well, the reason I come here, of course, is that I love Larry Niven's
works. He's always been one of my favorite authors since I was a kid,
and let me tell you, *that's* been quite a few years <g>.

I do like to talk about on-topic stuff, but I don't have an *actual*
scientific background; I just like to read sci-fi; so often, the topics
go over my head with a *whooshing* sound as everyone discusses
scientific minutae.

I don't mean to reduce the group to the "Hey, that book was cool!"
level, but I would like to see some more talk about characterization,
plot, that type of thing, at least.

Have a great day!

Ernest
