One thing that stood out for me in this issue...
Even taking into account that we're getting a translation from the Shi'ar,
"Cerise" is one of the worst code-names I've ever read. I mean, how can you
take her seriously as a warrior when her name means "Cherry"?

Has someone been reading manga? They're full of kick-butt women named
things like Vanilla and Mint.

1. It's not a codename.
2. In English, it's a colour.
3. She is/was a very good character.

But wouldn't said colour probably be derived from the French word for
cherry? As in cherry red? Quick look through my Webster's Compact
Dictionary... according to them, yes! Either way it's a moot point, because
Cerise is her real name, and thus it's Shi'ar. I just wanted to show off.

Isn't Belldandy's name a (purposeful) corruption of
Verthandi/Verdandi's - one of the Norns of Norse mythology?<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: X-Men: The End #3 (minor spoiler) |

Sure, but I don't speak French regularly, and nor do most of the readers, I'd
wager.

Yup, they're all named after the Norns (Verdandi, Urd and Skuld) but
there's no difference in B/V and L/R in Japanese transliteration so
Verdandi could also be Berdandi, Beldandi or Veldandi. They creator was
asked which was prefereable and Belldandy was the chosen one.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: X-Men: The End #3 (minor spoiler) |

As it was explained to me, it has more to with translation
problems of English/Western languages to Japanese.
Some sounds in western languages don't translate/tranfer very well
into Japanese.
It seems Verthandi/Verdandi/Belldandy is an example of this.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: X-Men: The End #3 (minor spoiler) |

I liked her, especially when Davis was writing her.

Was she always Shi'ar? Even from her debut in Excalibur? I don't remember

She was definitevly NOT in any way linked to the Shi'ar until after Davis
left the book. She was simply an alien wanderer from further away (in space,
possibly time and dimension) than even she knew.
I always loved her intro where she materialises in a room filled with
Nightcrawler and the N-Men, rhe removes her helmet and asks "Which of you
most resembles the dominant species of this planet?"
Kurt (Blue fur, three fingered hands, pointy tail) looks round at the others
in the room; werewolf-y Ferro-2, snakelike China Doll, faceless Ringtoss,
squidlike Waxwork and whatever the heck Bodybag looks like... After a
moments thought Kirt replies "Actually... that would be you."<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: X-Men: The End #3 (minor spoiler) |

I'm gonna go dig up those issues, but I think that is just coincidence.
