Manipulation of Modernism

Jeez, I knew James Jesus Angleton was all enthusiastic (in the 18th c. sense of
the woid) about high modernist lit, but Gay Edgar Hoover? (Hoover gets my vote
for inclusion in "Top Ten Worst Americans In History", but that's neither there
nor here). I remember Robert Anton Wilson's joke that the environmental artist
Christo 's next project was to put a dress around the FBI Building in
Washington...Not that there's anything wrong with that, as we say out here in
pop kulch land.
