The X-Men just wanted to protect the baby.
They don't know why Cable is doing what he is doing, as he hasn't
talked to them since he (rather poorly) faked his death. He's
shielded himself telepathically, so Emma can't find anything that way.
When the X-Men went after him to find out what was going on, he dodged
them and then stole their plane.
The most iffy part was that they for some reason believed the
attack on the mansion not only required tech from the future, but
that Cable was responsible for it in an attempt to shut them out of
the baby chase for some reason. Maybe they are even right, as Cable
*has* kept them out of the picture and been in a rush to follow his
own agenda. But it is still something that takes some major logic
jumps. (Weren't Cassandra Nova's nanosentinels current tech? Then
there are the super inventors. Or advanced alien tech. And even if
it were future tech, Cable is hardly the only guy from the future.) >> Stay informed about: Question about Messiah Complex(spoilers) |

I did want to add to this that I have the feeling that the baby is . .
.. wait for it . . . another incarnation of Jean Grey and/or Phoenix.

LORELAI: I am so done with plans. I am never, ever making one again.
It never works. I spend the day obsessing over why it didn't work
and what I could've done differently. I'm analyzing all my shortcomings
when all I really need to be doing is vowing to never, ever make a plan
ever again, which I'm doing now, having once again been the innocent
victim of my own stupid plans. God, I need some coffee. >> Stay informed about: Question about Messiah Complex(spoilers) |

I don't think that's the case...for once...if it were, I think they
would have played that up by now...and the Phoenix is supposedly still
trapped in the hearts of the Cuckoos...and, if this were somehow a
return of Jean, I think they would have announced that
somewhere...Marvel just can't keep a secret when it comes to these
things...I was actually thinking the baby might have some connection
to Rogue given the reaction when they touched and that she and Gambit
are supposed to be the stars of X-Men: Legacy...but I may be way off
on that one. >> Stay informed about: Question about Messiah Complex(spoilers) |

His mother is dead twice-over, but Jean doesn't happen to be that
person. That said, I still don't think it's her. It's a, um,
red-herring. >> Stay informed about: Question about Messiah Complex(spoilers) |
