This book by W.C. Leadbeater, published by iuniverse.com & also
available at amazon.com, draws considerably from Dick. The
VADIS/VALIS connection is immediately obvious; then there's the whole
UBIK-thing--keeping the premise, but with his own plot. In addition,
there's Joe Clip money, & Timothy Leary makes a couple cameos. The
premise of the story is that VADIS has caused mass insanity, so the
Thorazine Police start putting tranquilizers into beer, wine, & soda
pop & going around shooting people up with trank darts in order to
throw them into massive Hotels Gonzo. It sounds like the narrator
went to sleep one night & woke up in a PKDick fantasy. But it's
funny. It's totally hilarious. & it's in time for X-mas.
