A friend of mine swears she saw The Mist a couple of years ago on film.
Or an exact duplicate plot. Maybe a made for TV or anthology series
show? (And she's not thinking of "The Fog", she knows the
difference)

Not yet. Frank Darabont is working on it, but it's still in pre-pre-
pre-{...}production.

I'm not usually one for books on tape, but I really enjoyed "The
Mist." I heard it in the unabridged version one weekend while sick
many years ago and it made quite an impression. I'd read it before,
of course, but I wasn't very lucid at the time and I was just
expecting a tentacle to come slurping out from under the bed. I'd
love to see it in a movie version, especially now that CGI has gotten
to the point where it could be done and look fairly realistic.

I read "The Mist" when it was first published and wrote to King suggesting
that, due to its open ended conclusion that it would be interesting if he
turned it into a novel, with the present story forming the middle, the story
behind The Project and what went wrong being the first third, and the final
third following the adventures of the survivors in this strange, dangerous
parallel world. He replied that he had no plans to do that, and he hasn't.

I took a class in Stephen King in college and we actually listened to the
Mist in "3-D Audio" on CD and it was great. The fidelity did awesome wonders
with the sound effects and the excellent storytelling, it could be that guy
just listened to the CD and visualized it and now remembers it visually. I
hear that sort of thing happens all the time. I remember a very popular Star
Wars children's book came out just after the first movie and to this day,
there are people who believe that they saw the events in the book on T.V. or
something, but it is not so.
