| In a New X-Men issue (I forgot which one) Moonstar said she didn't have
her quantum powers and her psychic arrows anymore.
Can someone tell me when she did lose them?

I've got another Moonstar question. When she triggers her illusion
powers who sees them? Everyone, or just the person she pulls the image
from?

Everyone within eyeline sees them, but only the target perceives them as
being "real", others see them as being sort of like fuzzy images, and
certainly don't have the emotional connection the target has. >> Stay informed about: Moonstar question |

Yes, Dani figured out how to project her illusions directly into the
mindseye of her target fairly early on. The first time she was shown
doing this was during the Claremont/Sienkiewicz run, the storyline with
Roberto and Rahne stealing the powers of Cloak and Dagger. Danielle
disguises herself and Sam to gain entry to a fancy hotel by pulling
the image of the hotel manager's idea of the ideal customers (rich and
famous) and replacing the image of Dani and Sam in his mind with that
of the "hearts desire patrons" in his mind. >> Stay informed about: Moonstar question |

I recall that issue, distinctly. It was a new twist on Dani's powers.
Her powers started off with "greatest fear" and "heart's desire."
The power stunt she used in the hotel was based on extracting her target's
"expectations."

Dani's Mirage powers evolved from the initial "Greatest Fear" then
added "Hearts Desire" quickly to the mix and eventually she learned to
key into any specific image in the conscious or subconscious mind of
her target. Fear and Desire are just the easiest to rapidly pick out
in a pinch but she has shown that she has enough finesse to pull on
memories (ie the Burning Man issue of X-Force where she helped
Proudstar remember his family life) and other mental images. >> Stay informed about: Moonstar question |

That particular issue, though, dealt with drawing the concierge's
"expectations," IIRC.
Dani's a great character. I wish she'd graduate to the X-Men someday. Maybe
not right now, as there are a glut of psi's on the team, but someday.

Amen. When Claremont returned to the books and Rogue and Gambit were
announced as having leadership roles after a 6 month gap in story, the
only way I could make that remotely make sense is if there were going
to be a massive influx of new X-men that would put R & G in a position
of being senior members/leadership material. And even then if the
former New Mutants were in the mix, some of them would have been more
suited for leadership (Dani, Sam).
But it was not to be.
With the New New Mutants book, it again looked like the characters
might be spotlighted again but the transition to Academy X pushed the
characters to secondary.

The fact they appeared to be uber rich, as opposed to, say, simply prompt
payers, neat and tidy (Which is what a concierge would hope for) seems to
still link it to "hearts desire"

There was a time I wanted her on the X-Men, but that time is gone. I'd
rather X-Force reformed with Dani as a member - but an X-Force that
Liefeld doesn't come anywhere near. >> Stay informed about: Moonstar question |

Totally agree. The X-Men are kind of the snobs of the X-universe. I
think Dani works better with the other New Mutants and/or X-Force. The
"On the Road" issues of X-Force count among my favorites of that series
and Dani was around for it all. It just worked so well showing these
kids trying to relax and bum around the country. It's something the
X-Men could never do. >> Stay informed about: Moonstar question |

I am pretty sure they did work that way. With her first appearance as
"Moonstar" with the MLF using the arrows, Dani's targets collapsed
mumbling about somthing they feared. I think the writers simply tired
of writing that bit in every time she used an arrow and went with the
short cut explanation for how the arrows work. >> Stay informed about: Moonstar question |

The arrows were a kewl visual that made Dani more of an "action"
oriented character visually but did away with a great deal of subtlety
of her abilities.
A gimmick, like Gambit's playing cards. >> Stay informed about: Moonstar question |

It was never nearly as scary a concept as someone who can not only manifest
your worst fear to you, but allow others to see it too! >> Stay informed about: Moonstar question |

I can fault him plenty. He hasn't done anything decent since he left
X-Men and New Mutants. His Sovereign Seven was recycled X-Men, his two
sci-fi novels featured Storm, his FF introduced his ever-predictable
genius/adventurous/fun/spirited/strong women, the one issue of X-Treme I
thought I could tolerate had a powerless Rogue as the most awesome
fighter to ever walk the Earth (or so it seemed, since she took down two
powerful mutants with little effort), his Uncanny started with the
same-old, same-old in the softball game (not to mention I found that
some members were out-of-character), and I can't even begin to talk
about the one issue of Excalibur I could manage to read. So, yeah, I
can fault him. He was great once but that time is long gone.

Maybe. I'd have to see how he works with Marvel. I think Marvel and DC
have their own distinctive feels. Johns works very well with DC, but
I'm not sure how he'd work with Marvel. I'd need a trial run on some
other book before I'd stick him with the New Mutants.

I guess I don't see this in the sense that I never looked at the Titans
and the New Mutants as similar. The feel to them has always been
different.

True, but there were reasons for their connection based on their first
encounter. I liked how Amara and Rachel teamed up to go after Selene. >> Stay informed about: Moonstar question |
