I was just thinking about this. Everyone complains about QOTD the movie, but
neither QOTD nor IWTV are very accurate. I mean for example, Lestat. In IWTV,
Lestat comes off well, in my opinion and the opinion of others who I know who
have not read the books, homosexual. In QOTD, he comes off straight. While in
the books, he seems to like both. Also, in neither movie is most of the
vampires power shown. Such as their ability to communicate mentally with
mortals and each others. This is just shown in one scene in IWTV and is not
shown at all in QOTD. Also, I really don't think either movies show have they
have heightened senses. That's just my opinion, though.

I agree....I saw the movies before I read the books. Once I got into
the books I couldn't believe how different the movies were and how many
things were different.....sigh.

The movies are good. Just on their own. Before you read the books. The great
thing about the movies, at least for me, is they made me find the books which I
love. By the way, even though the book is better, IWTV is still my fav movie of
all time.

The only way I can enjoy either movie is to think like they aren't the
stories from the VC. When you watch for what they are - just another
vampire movie with just enough plot to keep people's attentions - then they
are pretty good movies.
Although, I have to admit that the movies did add faces in my mind for the
characters that I couldn't quite picture from the book.

Even that kind of proves my point. Brad Pitt didn't look like Louis. Louis has
black hair and green eyes, not brown and blue. Townsend, didn't look like
Lestat. It's funny, though. I read IWTV after seeing the movie, and I had Brad
Pitt's voice stuck in my head. =(

Isn't Armand the worst case of all? Antonio was quite good in his own right,
but hardly the auburn-haired seventeen year old.
And in QotD - there was this gathering of unnamed vampires at the Sonoma
Compound, who were they supposed to be?
And I had a very different Akasha pictured when I read the book, but now I
can't get Aaliyah out of my head when I read. She wasn't a bad pick, I just
would have done her make up very very differently.

Rent the video. You see who they are in the extra footage. It's been awhile
since I watched the video. So, I can't remember. I know Pandora was there,
though.

Wasn't Akasha white? I mean she was almost like stone. So, wouldn't she be
white?

Sandy,
In the movie it was Marius, Khayman (the corpse in white), Pandora,
Armand and Mael (the gray-haired guy in the straight coat). However,
in the book the gathering contained 12 vampires I believe:
Marius
Pandora
Khayman
Armand
Daniel
Santino
Eric
Louis
Gabrielle
Maharet
Mael
Jesse
Take care,
Ashe

That answers a question that's been bothering since I've seen the movie. I
guessed Pandora, but I mixed up Kayman and Mael (I figured the one in the
white robe must be the Druid). I would have never guessed Armand was the
blonde kid. I was taking him to be Eric, only because I don't remember a
whole of description about Eric in the book.
Thanks for clearing that up for me.

I though the guy playing Armand look absolutely horrid. I prefer
Antonio Banderas over that one.
Take care,

I thought Antonio did an incredible job as Armand. Though he didn't fit the
physical description in the book, he added great esthetics to his character.
Just the right amount of sexy, just the right amount of detachment while
paradoxically desperately lonely. I doubt any other actor could have taken the
places of any of the actors in the Geffen production.

Poor Matthew Newton,
what a lambasting because they cast him as Armand - not even us here could
take him seriously, mostly because his parents have been on Australian day
time tv since 1956 or something (Bert & Patty Newton), Bert still has his
own daytime TV morning show which is really all commercials. With little
bits added in.
Matthew is simply too "nice" to be Armand.
Plus, some kids I know went to school with him and find it even MORE
amusing.
