I'm new to this newsgroup, so if this question is dumb please forgive
me. I
have read several things in here about the movie rights, and something
about
doing a remake on the Interview with a Vampire with Anne Rice in
control.
What's going on with that? I thought Tom Cruise was already signed up
for the
next movie. I'm pretty lost huh? LOL Thanks in advance for all your
help.

Rice sold the movie rights to some, if not all (not sure), the Vampire
Chronicles with the stipulation that unless a follow up to Interview
was made before the end of 2001 or 2002 (can't remember)the rights
would revert back to her. They never reverted back because the
god-awful movie, Queen of the Damned, was made in time (and from the
way it was cobbled/slap together it shows they were in a hurry). As
far as I know Rice has no plans to bankroll a remake of either movie.
At the time Interview was made, Tom Cruise had expressed interest in
doing a sequel to Interview, but when Queen came up he had either lost
interest, his fee was too high ($20 million per picture) for their
budget, or the script was so bad he, wisely, turned it down.
Take care,
Ashe

Having just finished reading QOTD, it's blatently obvious they rushed
the movie version of QOTD.

QOTD as a movie was basically the Vampier Lestat and QOTD rolled into
one. There was so much detail left out of the movie it was criminal.

If you view QOTD without the knowledge of the Vampire Lestat and QOTD
books, it wasn't a bad movie.

I saw the movie before I read the books, and thought it was OK as a
vampire movie goes.

OI!!
It wasn't THAT bad.

I was in it! (ok, so I was one of the milling Melbourne Goth extra's, but
still...)

AND

Aaliyah was sensuous, so you could forgive the acting part of it.

WHAT HAPPENED??? Did i miss it???
This is what i found on the web so far.....
-------------------------------------------------------------
Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches Getting Major-Size Miniseries
Variety reports (via Creature Corner) that the rights for Anne Rice's
set of books dealing with the Mayfair Witches has been scooped up by
NBC to be turned into a 12-hour limited series.
The series will reportedly contain elements from The Witching Hour,
Lasher, and Taltos, the first three books in the series. John Wilder,
whose previous TV credits include Rice's The Feast of All Saints and
Return to Lonesome Dove, will take the writing and executive producer
roles.

"I'm thrilled to be working with NBC, [and executive producers] Mark
Wolper and John Wilder to bring this story to television in this way,"
Rice said in a statement. "A 12-hour limited series is the only way to
properly tell this story, and I'm certain my readers will agree."

NBC is tentatively planning on releasing The Witching Hour (title of
the project for now) as three four hour miniseries to be played during
the big sweeps months, namely November, February, and May during the
2003-04 season.

I saw that too... way back when... But I never heard anything else about it,
at all. Did it actually air and I totally missed it? Or is it one of those
things we'll just never hear about ever again?

Still in production last I heard (I think I read that they were still
working on it in a Yahoo board). The one that was "shelved" indefinitely
was The Mummy or Ramses the Dead.
