Hello Dave,

A while back you had mentioned another book in progress about Neal
Cassady, other then Fast Life of a Beat Hero. Can you post the data
regarding that book again and when and if it will be published?

Thanks again.

Hi,

I can only repeat what I posted to this newsgroup in February, that there is
another biography of Neal Cassady currently in the works, by Patrick Sawers.
I have no information on a possible publisher, or when it might eventually
appear.

Dan,

The points you raise are certainly valid. Not yet having seen the published
book myself I can't comment further at this stage.

thanks again Dave. I am well into the book and so far the beginning is
a retelling of the data in the Tom Christopher volumes.

While scanning the book I was surprised at the small amount of data on
the Prankster years, considering that so many of the people who hung
out with Neal are still alive. Holy Goof at least got exclusive
interviews with Mountain Girl etc. Maybe I will find out differently
when I read more. Also, there is so much exclusive data regarding the
Prankster years on the net and in Grateful Dead bios that I would think
that a Neal bio would go all out on getting scoops.

possibly the Huncke "bisexuality" mention is because Huncke probably
did, and I thinkk\ I recall reading of it, make it with women too, even
though his attentions did not go that way for the most part?

Notice at the beginning of the book where it says that the one of the
purposes of the book is to appeal to a new audience? I hope that is not
the primary reason since I am not new by any means and one gets tire of
reading rehashings. I only started the book however and kudos to the
uthors either way for their efforts

Yes, I believe you are right. In "The Evening Sun Turned Crimson" Huncke
writes of sharing an apartment (in the mid-1940s) with Vickie Russell at
102nd Street, New York:

"We had a rather beautiful kind of love -- devoid of tension -- anxiety --
and emotional violence. We were at peace with each other and I look back to
that time with a deep feeling of gratitude." (p. 56)

In his interview in tuvoti 3 (p. 10), Huncke also spoke of falling in love
with Joan Vollmer Adams, who was later the common-law wife of William
Burroughs.

It does therefore seem that Huncke's love interests were not entirely
homosexual.
