Suggestions please; I've decided to make a Chess set and table based on
Narnia (just for myself, not for sale, although I will post photos when
done).
Suggestions as to who should be what, are greatly appreciated.

have fun, and God Bless

You might consider Calormenians for black an narnians for white.

In a way, Aslan on white side and Tash on black side would make sense
as kings, but then again: An Aslan that can be beaten and can barely
move?

Strawberry really ought to be used as a knight, though.

Do you want to make it 'good' vs. 'evil'?

If so, for good: Peter as King, Lucy as Queen, horses (perhaps Fledge
and Bree; or Jewel and Puzzle from LB) as knights, mice as pawns. No
particular suggestions for bishops and rooks, but there are various
animals that might do (bears, centaurs, badgers, ...). No Aslan on the
board, obviously ("He's not a tame lion, you know.").

For evil: the White Witch as Queen, perhaps Tash as King, wolves as
knights, giants as rooks. Perhaps black dwarves as pawns. Shift (and
perhaps even Ginger as well) as a bishop.

Or you could do more tightly themed sides. For example, a "Caspian" set
with Caspian as King, various characters from PC and VDT as the pieces
(Dr Cornelius and Trumpkin as bishops?) and Telmarine soldiers as the
pawns.

Best wishes,
Matthew Collett

well, that's real nice - but you could still do your own ideas. That way
it'd mean more to you.

Aslan as the black king? And the Wardrobe as a queen? Weird... Is that
gnomes as the white pawns? Why not fauns? Or mice? Oh, wait - if the bishops
are weird skeleton guys, then I guess the white set is supposed to be evil?
Is that the White Witch then?

Y'know... I think you could do a lot better for yourself. Make a list of all
the characters you really like and would want to include, and then winnow it
out. With Peter and Susan as king and queen, you could do Lucy and Edmond as
the bishops. But where does that leave Aslan....hmmmm...Ok.... Aslan as the
King.... Lucy and Susan as "bishops", Peter and Edmond as the Knights.
And.... for the queen.... ahh.... anything but the Wardrobe!! LOL

Wonder why black for the good guys, instead of red (traditional) or
gold?

Gold probably would have looked very nice. I've seen some chess sets that
are hand painted there is a "main" color, but also hand painted
"highlights" - and that might have worked well too. It's a great idea, but I
personally wouldn't buy the set shown in the graphic. Hey, Michael, if you
do it, can you let us see how much better yours is? [grin]

You would need 2 Kings and 2 Queens!
